1U Switches or Media Converters for Media Conversion?

I have two (2) Dell 5524 Switches (Gigabit Ethernet RJ45) which I need to connect (2 connections per Dell 5524 Switch) to two (2) 1310 nm Single Mode Fiber Switches.

Which would be better (more reliable)?:

    1. Use multiple Media Converters.
    2. Purchase two (2) new Switches which have both Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 and 1310 nm Fiber connections.

    Thanks in Advance.

I don't see reliability an issue regardless which you use - if all is properly setup and the system is not overloaded - and you don't buy the cheapest parts you can find. I would ensure any converter was 10/100/1000 to ensure good bandwidth.

That said, you get bragging rights when you go fiber. :D
