    I find it interesting that there is no mention where the compromised information was stolen from.

    They say they were keylogged.

    That still doesn't reveal where this mass amount of compromised e-mail addresses were stolen from. Maybe they were taken from the NSA :D

    The thread title is not completely correct: The passwords stolen don't have to be necessarily related to email addresses. It could also be, for example, related to sites where you have to log on with a password, etc. German sites point to that issue. I'll ask LowWaterMark whether he would be so kind to change the thread title. Sorry.

    Not necessarily: a person could have (and should have) more than one password. Never use a password for more than one purpose.
    Nevertheless, the huge number of stolen passwords is definitely a concern.

    Not much have been made public about the whole issue. There is talk about a botnet.
    Lots of questions can be raised; for example:
    If a botnet caused this all, which botnet? Who are behind it? Which anti-malware programs do detect it, and when did they start to detect it?
    I can think of more questions...
