FWIW I have used BlackVipers list of services in vista to disable 11 services on a HP 64 bit Desk Top Vista Home Premium system. It is linked via DSL to a public ISP. No sharing, 1 pc / router. Here is what I have successfully disabled so far. PC seems slightly snappier.

    THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION

    Application Experience Automatic
    Application Layer Gateway Service
    Certificate Propagation Manual
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    Health Key and Certificate Management
    Human Interface Device Access
    Interactive Services Detection
    Netlogon

Um, err, I have gone a tad further and not just disabled but have deleted a coupla more services from my Vista Ultimate install.

These are the only services I have left.Don't attempt it as I admit I go overboard but everything that I need to do works fine.

    Hi Franklin:

Not to worry, I won't take your settings as a recommendation just as mine isn't one either.

To explain my approach a bit I am working on a functioning client PC and I don't want to knock it out of action! So I'll proceed in small disable steps of 5 to 10 services using BlackViper's web site as a guide. When in doubt I set to manual reboot and run a few programs if the service is not started then I disable it.

You mentioned uninstall services, don't think I ever did that, how did you do it and which ones did you uninstall?

I made a batchfile to delete services.

Example to delete Uninterruptible Power Supply

    sc delete UPS

I won't post the complete list I use as it's a bit overboard and I wouldn't be deleting any services if I didn't have a decent backup such as ghost images.
