* * Unicron

* * *imo the members of this BB must wonder why I haven't registered......an rightously so.

* * *the problem is with me...absolutely none else.
as Paul can perhaps attest to...there are certain reasons I don't register......no matter where. *the same reasons are why I never use e mail........now to most people that may sound absurd.......well consider how I must feel..forever being "a guest".....making friends..growing fond of members...but always just "a guest"

* * * I haven't met a person here that I would not welcome to my home.....an yet..registering is not an option in my case......at least not for awhile yet....should I get a second computer for home use....then no problem.....until then I can only ask that everyone please be as understanding as you feel that you can.....an I thank you for doing so.

* * *Unicron...I honestly take your mention of registering as a compliment.......an wanted to offer you and others the opportunity to understand my situation.....an no its not an easy situation to understand.....however. bear in mind that it took three years for me to open an e mail account....an Paul was the ONLY person I have ever sent e mail....then recently *I lost the account....Spy 1 may perhaps remember my situation....maybe Mickey also.....

* * * *well..at least you and other members now know that I have a rather unusual situation....regarding registering and e mail. *an believe me I've tryed countless ways......there has been no lack of trying.

I'm pretty sure the last 2 or 3 versions of Proxo addressed that problem. Maybe I'm wrong.
Hope your gut gets better Snowman. Food poisoning is a horrid thing to put up with.
I went to that site with no adblocking software, but I did have Mozilla set to block 3rd party images (ads), 3rd party cookies, and urequested windows (ie. popups). Didn't stop a single page from loading. I think that site got ripped off.

Pete,

*You didn't get blocked from the site with spyblocker running. *I just visited there and the page loaded fine, minus the junk. *Click on some of the buttons you see, browsing the site is a snap with SpyBlocker.

*Furthermore, SpyBlocker allows me to run a proxy such as proxomitron STEALTH. *That site can't detect anything I run. *The trick is to use a pacfile (pacfile generator) and lilnk your ad blocking proxy to that. *Therefore you technically don't have any ad blocking installed directly into your browser so NOTHING is detected. *

*If anyone needs any help securing your adblockers I'd be glad to help since this is the way of the future it's important to know you can fight back!

*BTW, 5.2 is out now. *(http://www.spyblocker-software.com)

I'll be quite happy to get my d/l's elsewhere - especially considering the fact that I'd never heard of them before, anyway!

Message I got when accessing the page:

"Ad blocking blocked

*As of today, we have implemented a method to block users who are using so-called "ad blockers" from entering our site. At all.
*
*This is due the fact that by using ad blockers, you're getting content for free, without compensating us, publishers. We can't provide this content for free -- our server costs for two dedicated servers are extremely high with hundreds of gigabytes of traffic a month. And this is paid by our advertisers -- however annoying their ads might be (we have blocked 99.9% of popup requests from our advertisers and have only allowed popunders -- and even allowing popunders took 2.5 years to decide), those ads pay our server hosting bills.
*
*If you can't tolerate this decision, feel free to find the content and software from other sites. Only thing what I ask from you, is to understand our situation -- we don't like ads either, but they're necessary for us to survive.
*
*-Petteri 'dRD' Pyyny, webmaster"

I'm always kind of amazed by this sort of thing. Why don't they just take the total server cost per year, divide it by the total # of registered users (of course, for this to work, all users would have to register) and charge registered users that much per year to use the site?

If the site was really, really good (and they'd have to constantly strive to be, wouldn't they?) it would work - and the more registered users they acquired, the cheaper the cost per individual (to a certain extent, anyway - I realize that the more people use it the more their bandwidth costs would increase).

And guess what? it would be totally ad free! People who went there wouldn't have to worry about being tracked or profiled or bombarded with all those pop-unders!

They could further enhance the value of a membership there by making absolutely certain (and certifying so) that nothing you could get from there would contain spyware (or if it did, that it would be plainly marked as such, complete with a description of said spyware and what its' capabilities were).

That might be too much work, though. *

I simply don't understand why they resort to this kind of thing when they could go the other route and actually wind up giving people something they'd happily pay for because of the peace-of-mind factor.

Oh, well, I wish them luck with their new policy! pete

I have to admit, your product is pretty slick. *I really should check and see if 5.2 will fit in my configuration of chained proxies. *Is there an online manual, Paul?

Many thanks.

Port 80 is the port SpyBlocker uses to protect you, you cannot change this port.
This means I can't use it, since JAP uses 4001, chained off Proxo on 8080. *Shame.

Sure you could use it, *neither of these two programs you listed use port 80!

I use SB *> Pacfile > Prox(8080)

Any combination can be achieved. *

Ding! *You might just have a paying customer, Paul!

IE -> SB (Use Automatic config script 127.0.0.2) -> Proxo (via pacfile) -> JAP -> The World!

So where does port 80 come in? *

Does this mean a webserver can not be run on the same machine?

is there no registry setting to change this?

if that webserver runs on port 80 you can still use SB to generate a hosts file, but the rest of the program will not be functional. * There is no setting to change this.
