You have some sort of malware on your system that is opening that pop-up advertisement. My basic advise to you is that DO NOT click the pop-up at all, when the pop-up comes out, quickly close it.
Some other expert will be along shortly to help you resolve your problem. |

BTW, have you recently downloaded any program or clicked on any malicious link in a webpage? Spyware could get on your system in that manner.

It's from another user. Don't know if she clicked on something (probably).
But in Software > Add and Remove I don't see anything strange (maybe I overlooked it). And as said, Spybot - Search and Destroy shows only a DSO exploit (but that's common according to Spybot). |

Could you please elaborate more about how you got this thing from another user? And I would like to know more about when that pop-up appears on your computer? Does that pop-up appear when you open Internet explorer or when you close internet explorer, or does it appear when you visit a certain website?

Just a question. Did you receive this from clicking on a link in a spam e-mail or was it on a banner ad on a website? The reason I ask is, several rouge anti-spyware apps use tactics like this to lure people into downloading their garbage. I would also suggest scanning with Ad-Aware SE. Hope this helps.

The person gets the popup @ startup from Internet Explorer. It just happens once a day and is with different (random) sites. Also it suddenly appeared according to the person (no strange software installed / accepted from mail / sites).

Very good advice. ![]() Speaking of messenging, if you are not networked and have no need of the Messenger Service network option and haven't already, disable the system generated MS Messenger Service, [nothing to do with MSN Messenger] disable that via Services or using XP-AntiSpy HERE I will include full length pic of XPAntiSpy to show you the options available. You just need a general pop-up blocker, or get another browser which has inbuilt popup blockers.
or.. get an IE shell based browser, like MyIE, avant, etc. which have pop-up blockers in them but still use IE engine, and just has cosmetic changes, like tabbed browsing, etc. Very easy to use, setup. TAS edit: I forgot and thanks to gerardwil for informing me, MyIE has been renamed Maxthon. From site: Quote:

Problem is... Because of a world wide company rule, we aren't allowed to install another browser
![]() That's why I was hoping that a (temp) program could remove the popup. |

Can you take the following steps:
Step 1. Install and run CWShredder (free) available here: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086 Step 2. Install update and run Spybot Search and Destroy (free) – Spyware removal and protection, with registry monitor. http://beam.to/spybotsd Step 3. Install update and run Adaware (free) – Spyware removal. What Spybot Search and Destroy doesn’t pick up, this will. http://www.lavasoftusa.com When your system is clean you may want to take a look here for further discussion on security: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...4&page=1&pp=25 and here for more: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=43117 Hope this helps… Let us know how you go… Cheers ![]()

Win XP service pack 2 has a built in pop up blocker. Use the XP firewall as well if you are not already. I had norton installed and stuff was still getting through. XP firewall works better. Go figure on that one. A microsoft product that works well.....
Hope this helps. Morgoth |

The safest way to opt out is Ctrl+W.

Is this a poser? Im having the same problems although once I run Ad-aware SE, it causes a system restart. Spybot does not get rid of the pop up or coolwwwsearch bar, and ad aware has basically been useless for the past few weeks. Has anyone else had these problems with ad-aware?
