VLC player>Any good?

hey,

I have recently been looking for a player for KVCD and OGG video codecs and a friend of mine recommend VLC media player @ www.videolan.org

I was just wondering if anyone has experience witht his player and wether it is any good?

VideoLan is the best player around, most people are running after codec packs but with VideoLan you can play 90 % video file formats available without any codec pack. If you want a tip : get the zipped ( no install version

Extremely good player with support for most major formats...no needs to install 'shoddy' codecs. Good sound and video output.
One of the best products from the open source community.

Why the zip package over the installer though? What's better about the zip package than the installer?
