Another AV Test.... (-;

For people who follow these kind of things, here is one more test done by guys at www.zastita.co.yu.

Only thing that is weird is the packers test and the one where they test on-access archive checking. First one gave kinda funny results (for example avast! unpacking only UPX,AsPack and PE_Shield,because i know it can unpack FSG and MEW too,not to mention lots of others), while on-access archive scanning is kinda useless (much larger scan overhead) and doesn't really apply to antiviruses with HTTP scanning module (avast! and NOD32).
But in general it's interesting although i don't like they way they did it because you have too look back to see what specific test number mean in those tables...

 

I was surprised that NOD seemingly has less packer support than F-Prot and Norton.

 

Especially YodaCrypter/YodaProtect. As far as i know NOD32 supports these two...

I've never heard of them, but that's Not to be taken as a slur against them.

This test is from 9 months ago, but i think you might find a lot of interesting data in there, including background info etc etc.

Also check out the Tools/Apps info in the DL area.

Thanks for that info and instead of having two threads going about the same topic we'll just merge them together and continue the discussion.

 

OK so who's changed the title then, i bet is was Bubba more than likely. Oh i see it was lol.

I have to admit i didn't realise it had been on before, sorry about that. But it does appear that i'm not the only one who missed it, or liked it. So all good hey !

And kudos to Technodrome for finding it originally.

You would definetly lose that bet since the only Mod action taken is to merge the thread

 

NOD32...hmmm....ace and tar not supported?

And many unsupported packers compared to others and some little known viri in Test1.

But anyway in the rest is the best.

 

tar, ace & even gz is supported by nod. So it's all good
7z was not supported last time I checked, but that could have changed.

 

7zip is not supported by a variety of AVs including NOD32. Hopefully 7zip will be supported with NOD32 version 3.

 

ACE I can confirm that is not supported by NOD32, and I don't think tar & gz is supported either.

Example, I have an infected archive named: NetAngel v1.0.ace
This archive contains 4 files, 1 of which is infected (and detected by NOD32 itself).
Scanning the archive, the on-demand scanner shows 1 scanned files and no detections.

(Try for yourself.)

 

As you can see on this screenshot, NOD supports TAR & GZ. I'll try with ACE in a sec.
Yeah no ACE support.. Weird. It's as common as RAR files.
