Within the last 48 hours it became known that Lavasoft's Ad-aware was the target of another developers wrath. Radlight apparently decided to take it upon themselves to add an element to their install routine that basically uninstalled Ad-aware with no warning to users. Acoording to this post RadLight now appears to have included the following in it's install routine:

I wonder to what extent this changes the legal aspect of their actions.

So, let's see...not only do they demand that users remove any defence against their own scumware, but against everyone else's scumware too. *Not nice.

May the Anus of the Cosmos deposit them in the Effluence of Time, there to fester and stink forever without the comfort of Holy Toilet Paper.

Best not use their wretched little creation at all.

As I stated in the article it doesn't change anything except to give Lavasoft even more legal amunition. This is clearly a violation of the law in the United States. Notwithstanding issues regarding Intrusion Detection Devices Radlight never had the authority to act or retaliate even if Lavasoft was violating SaveNow's legal rights. Radlight was never a part of Lavasoft's target list. SaveNow is and has been for some time. Therefore Radlight has no legal authority to respond in any fashion. Them doing so breaks additional civil and criminal laws in the United States IMO.

However, if Lavasoft makes Radlight a direct target of Ad-aware then IMO Lavasoft will take a huge chunk out of their own legal and public ammunition. IMO this type action will look like justice to a few and will appear as a childish reaction to most others. Lavasoft and it's supporters have an unprecendented opportunity here. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

And why not do the sensible thing and simpy back off?
Their version of savenow installs optionally (or so Mr Igor keeps screaming at his forums), and savenow is not their software anyhow. Will he next include removal of spybot, spycop, pest patrol, xcleaner, et.al?
It was a foolish move now made worse by not removing the malicious code.
