Default Speed

I have a Pentium III 1.0Ghz system with 512M Ram running Windows 2000 Server creating an image of the entire partition to a network system running a 3.0GHZ HT 800mhz FSB with a 300Gig USB external HDD with a 16Meg cache.

The partition is approx 100 meg. How long should this take to create image across the network? The Pentium III and the workstation both are on a 1.0 Gigabit ethernet network.

Acronis for windows server 8.0

Acronis said it would take 9 hours to create this image and it truly did take 9 hours to create the first image!

9 hours! Can this possibly be correct ?

See http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=93227

What compression are you using?

Do you have 100 GB (I assume not MB) of data in that partition? How large is the partition? How large is the TI image?

I tried this with normal and maximum compression there was 1 hour and 23 minutes difference in the creation. The HDD is actuall a 120GB drive using 97GB of data.

The TI Image after completion of maximum compression was 74.5 GB Took 8hours and 43 minutes to create the image.

I have to wonder if the server was a hot rod server if this would be any faster and if so how much faster?? 8 hours and 45 minutes a day with heavy cpu usage on a PIII server just doesn't cut it. Also, we run O&O Defrag on our servers which do defrag on the fly so i'm also wondering about the incremential backups how much faster those will actually be.

Darwin,

Your imaging works out to 143 MB/minute. Let me give you some examples.

A few years ago I had a P3 450 and using Drive Image with maximum compression the rate was 150 MB/minute. A friend had a P3 1000 and his rate was 100 MB/minute, slower than mine. We never worked out why.

My current P4 3200 has a rate of 1000 MB/minute which is a fairly typical figure.

I assume your network isn't the bottle-neck so maybe that is the speed at which your computer images. Still, it would be worthwhile to see how long it took to write the image to an external HD.

How long extra does it take to verify the image?

Hello Darwin,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Server Disk Backup Software.

Please note that such a "low" speed is most likely caused by the need to transfer the image over the network.

Please try to create an image saving it to any local hard drive (internal or external) and let me know how much time does it take.

Please also try to copy this image from the local drive to the destination network share and let me know how much time does it take.

Thank you.
