After answering all Symantec's questions with "I don't know" and
    giving them my favorite email-address : "phone@home.et"
I downloaded the installation file. So far so good.

Installing NAV2006b made me a bit angry.
I had to REMOVE my "AVG Free" and even my firewall "ZoneAlarm Free".
So I cancelled the installation and couldn't enjoy NAV2006b.
Once again, I'm very disappointed in Symantec.

You should not blame Symantec for this.

When testing/installing other AntiVirus/Firewall programs it is good advice to uninstall the present resident AV and FW and not to simply disable them ;)
There is then less chance of possible conflicts.

The only exception is when you are simply installing an AV as a backup on-demand scanner and even then particular combinations may still not work.

This is especially true when you are beta testing as you need to rule out as many possible conflicts as possible. Betas can have enough bugs without having similar programs installed to conflict with.....

    Blackcat,
A while ago, I installed/ran/uninstalled NOD32 Trial and KAV Beta and both didn't say anything about my AVG Free and ZoneAlarm Free during the installation and I ran both without any troubles.

I understand that NAV2006b wants me to remove AVG Free, because they are both AV scanners, but ZoneAlarm Free is a pure firewall without AV scanner. So what's the problem ?

Well it doesn't matter, I just wanted to see if NAV2006b was able to find a threat on my computer.
I'm not planning to buy this expensive software anyway.

OK. I agree with that, but will that change when the final version of NAV2006 is out. I don't think so.

I don't understand that one either. It would be nice to know their reasoning behind having to uninstall your firewall to install an AV  ...

So what's the memory footprint of all the combined processes up to now?

Same is true of NAV2005 - Internet Worm Protection.
