I will take this one step further.
I met a woman on the internet. She is 53. She has a degree in microbilogy. She sent me an e-mail which is suppose to include e-mails from a previous admirer. The e-mail contains active X. Something that should not be part of the e-mail. I sure don't dare ask Kevin. How can I find out what is going on? controler |

Ok this could be a loaded question.
If a home user does not know about security settings in Windows, What program will protect them if they get an e-mail with active X in it?I have a copy of the e-mail if anyone is interested. controler |

You can turn off ActiveX using Browser Extension manager, read the email, and then enable it again afterwards.

DownUnder
I did notice it still gets included in my sent e-mail if I forward it. I am not so sure I want to turn it off. All I have to do if preview it and I get the IE active X alert. I am thinking it is an ynsigned active x and that is what my IE is set for at present. The e-mail gives no other clue that there is any active x incoded. Or are you saying it would be safe for me to turn down IE security setting and let the active x run? I am going out of town for a while but will re-read info on active x. controler |

Nother dumb question?
Could the unsigned active X be encoded into a gif? I was thinking IE wouldn't detect it if it was. She had mentioned something about Gif. She asked me the other day if a virus could be included in a gif & I told her yes. I then had her run DCS's JPG scanner and it found nothing. Looking at the message source I only see there is suppose to be a gif in the e-mail somewhere. Also, would asking for a read receit cause an active x? see attached |

What AV program are you using on your computer? It should be configured to scan all incoming email. Alternately, you can submit that file for online scan http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

Still never figured this out. KAV says all is well but there is a dang Active x in the mail. I just want to know what it's purpose is.
