Question Viruses, worms, trojans & spyware???

Hi - Are there any definitive programs (preferably free, but if not really worth it!) to combat the above? It seems difficult to get any true independant tests as everyone has their own agenda to sell you their own product. Please help if you can. Thank you, Deca

Thumbs up Re: Viruses, worms, trojans & spyware???

Decapad, hello and welcome to Wilders.

As far as viruses and trojans are concerned, if you want really good protection you are going to have to shell out some of the green stuff. I recommend either Kaspersky or NOD32. While they are both billed as AV's, I've heard they are also good at catching trojans as well. I use NOD32, and it works great for me.

Until TDS went belly-up, I used that as my AT. But it was overkill for me. Unless you really need extra protection from trojans, the above should be enough.

Concerning spyware, your in luck. Both Lavasoft Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy are the best, and they are FREE. I use the both, in addition to Spywareblaster (also free).

For worms, not sure if there are any good freeware programs, but I use DCS's Wormguard. It's not free, but it works great.

Good luck!

I use the free version of Ewido on-demand scanner, not the online web-based scanner.

It is part of the download. You get 30 days free for the active monitor, then you can use the on-demand scanner for free.

Good to know, Capp. I'm now using A-Squared free. How does it compare to Ewido free?

I personally have not used A-squared yet. I am very pleased with Ewido. Since they updated it to v3.5, the speed has rocketed up. It used to take an hour or so to scan my whole drive, now it takes less than half that time. And the fact that there are updates every day.

I highly recommend it's use.
