My daughter just phoned saying that she thinks she may have a virus on her Dell notebook (with NAV2005 installed), as people she doesn't even know are complaining about receiving mail from her!
I realize that this could be a case of her email address being spoofed, but to play safe I've sent her the Trend webpage for Housecall. Is there a better online scanner than Housecall that I should suggest she try? Thanks, pv |

both of those online scans have pretty good detection. if one can't delete a piece of malware usually the other can
let us know how it goes.bigc

not the online scans, sometimes it is a little hard to get an internet connection from safe mode.

Thanks guys, I'll have her run one at a time until one of them hopefully finds the culprit (if she indeed is infected)!

I have a real problem with at least two of these...the only two I tried both wanted IE only, and they wants ActiveX enabled.
As far as I'm concerned, that puts them completely out of the running. There just ain't no way on this green Earth that I'm allowing ActiveX on my machine, OK? Does anyone have any suggestions for online scanners that work without ActiveX?

Installing ActiveX content from AV vendors usually is not a problem.
That's bascially all I use Internet Explorer for - Scanning, Gmail & Netbanking. The rest goes through Firefox ![]()

I used KAV online scanner for some days. Now appears the message: Online virus scanning licence expired.
Is it like this? These online scanners have a limited time licence for use? Thnx

Between last night and this morning my daughter ran the following online AV scanners: Housecall, Panda, BitDefender and F-Secure.
Each of them found her system to be clean, so I'm concluding she is the victim of email-address spoofing (i.e., someone who has her email address in their contact list has the actual virus on their PC and it is using her address as the 'From' in the infected emails it broadcasts)! I suggested that she send an email to her email contacts alerting them of the possibility that they may have a virus, along with links to the above online scanners. Thanks for all of your support. ~pv Last edited by pvsurfer : July 25th, 2005 at 01:01 PM. |

The trend micro housecall really works good. I also like bitdefenders scan but it leaves junk files called BDOSCAN on my drives which I have to remove after the scan completes. I go with housecall.
