    Hello all,

I am creating this thread for my post in this thread. My RegRun ghost file is also available for download in that post/thread. Please post all comments here as to keep the "untested" thread uncluttered and clean. It will also help us to keep that thread organized and easier to follow.

I look forward to hearing all comments ;) ...

    Hi Kent,

Fantastic documentation. Very transparent and understandable. This is great fFor those who are trying to understand how registry protection inhibits the installation (instantiation) of all types of malware (trojans, worms, spyware, etc.).

I've installed your group on my system and so far everything is running without a problem.

I have installed your orginal group but am learning a lot from your documented post. I am pleased you have opened this thread for responses as I didn't want to add anything the the actual thread, especially when I haven't added the new protect keys as yet.

Appreciate all the time take as it certainly does help me to understand more why I need to add and what effect I can expect - thank you.

    Hi Kent, ;)

While I haven't installed the new group yet ... I do have a couple of suggestions. It would be nice if the documentation you provided in the untested thread was included as a .txt file in the zip, and maybe change the zip name to include a date or version number for easier reference.

Thanks for all the work. ;)

    Hi Puff,

Thanks for that thread and your time and effort in putting it all together, the links, and of course, your ghst file. :)

I just installed it on my system and so far no problems. Should I notice anything peculiar I will post back to this thread.

    Best Regards,

    Jag

I never experienced any probs with the ghost files to be honest.

the probs I had, were not related to Regdefend...it's just so damn fast, the other apps are picky ;) But I found a way with Tiny again.

.. Also you, Tony and Tay, your help is truely great! Keep up the good work!

Are your keys taken from Windows XP? I ask, becasue my Windows 2000 Pro registry does not include the "scrnsave.exe" file you list:

    "hkey_current_user\control panel\desktop | scrnsave.exe hkey_current_user\control panel\desktop | scrnsave.exe"

In its place, Win2k's registry shows, "ScreenSaveActive", "ScreenSaveIsSecure", and "ScreenSaveTimeOut".

Please help, as RegDefender's help file does not give guidance, nor does the program itself provide clues on how to insert "Key + Value" under the heading "Wildcards":

When I try to follow your recommendation, "hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\internet explorer\styles* | * | Key + Value | Mod Key, Mod Value | Ask User", I do not see how to insert "Key + Value" under the heading "Wildcards"; the other parts pose no problem for me.

    Hi NormanS,

From the information on that key I supplied in this thread: Tested Ghost Groups .gst, the info was taken from a MicroSoft site describing the Windows 2000 registry keys. Most of my references are to that site, however the majority of the info also does apply to Win XP.

Sometimes a key will not be in the registry if you are not using that particular function, however this does not keep malware from creating that key and exploiting its use. RegDefend looks to see if a particular is created if it is not already in the registry.

    HTH ;) ...

    Hi NormanmS,

You do not need to enter anything manually to install the keys from that post. Further down in the post, instructions are given as to how to install the RegRun ghost file:
