I use CCleaner also but I also use Privacy Guardian 4.0

Privacy Guardian does the following.

1. Completely cleans all traces of online Internet activities on your computer including cache, cookies, index.dat and history

2. Permanently deletes recycle bin contents, temporary files, document history, plus many more PC tracks

3. Bleaches free space and deleted files using Department of Defense standard (DoD 5220.22-M) making them unrecoverable using regular methods

4. Restores valuable hard drive space and improves system performance

5. Plugins to clean software including Kazaa, ICQ, iMesh and many more

6. Supports Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox and Opera web browsers

I use CCleaner and it does a good for cleaning trash off the hard drive. The things I like about CCleaner are its speed, its ability to easily add custom folders to clean out, and it's thoroughness in disk cleaning. It dumps a lot of useless logs that other cleaners do not. However, I don't feel it does a great job with the registry cleaning.

I have TuneUp 2004 and have put it on the back burner because it does not clean the registry as deeply as I like...at least it didn't 6-8 months ago when I stopped using it.

My preference for a combination disk cleaner, registry cleaner and registry compression is Ace Utilities at www.acelogix.com.

Another combination that works well is CCleaner for disk cleaning and jv16 PowerTools 2005 for registry cleaning (RegSupreme is also good...a stripped down and cheaper version of jv16 PowerTools that just cleans the registry and does not have all the other features of jv16 PowerTools).

I'm speaking from the aspect of Windows XP-SP2 only.

I've been using TUU for over a year and it's the only registry cleaner I've tried that I completely trust - partly because, as someone has already said, it doesn't go too deep. No problems with TUU registry defragmentation either.

Of the other registry cleaners mentioned, I like jv16 PowerTools - I'm using the last freeware version. On my PC, CCleaner and RegSeeker have both deleted stuff they shouldn't have.

Thats why you should create a backup before you delete the entries on RegSeeker.

So far Ive backed up everything just incase, and still nothing has happend to my computer using RegSeeker.

Thumbs up Re: good cleaner..

Ace Utilities I find to be excellent. CCleaner is a very good freeware cleaner. My favourite dedicated registry cleaner is definitely Registry First Aid....Howard
