Uninstalling a DOS Program?

A friend installed a program that was a DOS program. He doesn't want to use it, and is not sure how to uninstall it.
Can it be done with the add/remove of the control panel?

No. You need to delete the directory that the DOS program was installed in. You also need to check AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS for entries. Delete the entries. Post the two files here if you are not sure.

 

Thanks, and I will pass this on to him. Sounds pretty difficult to me.
If or when he decides to do it, I will ask some more questions. It may be a dumb question, but what is a directory?

Actually, it is not difficult. Autoexec.bat and config.sys are text files, so just use Notepad. You could just delete the files too. XP does not need them. Some old DOS apps might.

 

Do I go to START RUN and then type in Autoexec.bat and then config.sys? And how does Notepad fit in?
You see, I am so poor as to this kind of knowledge that I need a cook book.

The files are at the root of the C: drive.

C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
C:\CONFIG.SYS

Start - Run - Notepad C:\autoexec.bat

Start - Run - Notepad C:\config.sys

They may not exist at all. You would only have them if you updated your OS from an older version, or if you installed a DOS application that created them.

You know it could be very easy to do and as said just deleteing the folder depending how they made this program.

2. Check to make sure there are no data files in the folder (or subfolders in the folder).

These applications simply exist in the default Anzio directory where installed, i.e. c:\anzio. No other files should exist anywhere else within the system. Simply delete these directories if you wish to remove Anzio for DOS.

But some programs you would call still DOS could have some auto thingie going on and that is still easy to remove.

Not sure if that means enough to do any good. It appears that there is another version inaddition to the DOS. However, I downloaded it and there was not a choice.
My buddy has a new computer and is putting some programs on it that he lost on his old computer. This was a new one that I thought he might find useful. I didn't know it was a DOS program.

As Close_Hauled and Primrose said....deleting the directory will be adequate.

In the case of this program....delete the C:\rifled folder....and all the files contained in it. Nothing is written to the registry according to RegDefends log.

Primrose thanks also. Good to hear from you. I guess you see by now that I need a lot of help to do much with computers.
BTW, not sure if you are interested in such things but a program Pointblank is small enough to put on a floppy and is terrific to provide trajectory and other ballistic info.

I also recognized it when I saw it....as a program a buddy of mine at work uses. He enjoys re-loading his own shells.
