I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it's moved, no problem
Whenever I reboot my computer, I get a message that reads: /systemroot/ windows/system32/autochk.exe not found or something like that (it's on the screen for a split-second, so I may not have caught it all). After this message appears, it goes to my desktop, and everything seems to be running normally. I did a search to try to locate this Autochk.exe file, and the autochk application was found in the System32 folder. So, I'm wondering how this file could have been deleted and how I may go about fixing this problem. Actually, it doesn't really seem to be causing any problems with my computer, but obviously I need this file. I'm running WindowsXp Pro. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

If you receive:
\SystemRoot\Windows\System32\Autochk.exe program not found - skipping Autocheck That lasts for about 2 seconds and then the system boots normally and seems to run fine. Then.... What is in the registry at the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute It should be a REG_MULTI_SZ data type set to autocheck autochk * If not, set it to autocheck autochk * see here also http://help.lockergnome.com/index.php?showtopic=25712

Thanks for the reply.
I checked that registry key, and there is no BootExecute in that key. I also tried checking in the Scheduled Tasks in System Tools. There is nothing there that relates to autochk. I also ran CHKDSK.EXE and no errors came up. I'm not sure why I can't find anything relating to AutoChk except for the autochk application in the system32 folder. I hope that this isn't a really serious problem. Thanx. |
