Network cable STILL registers as unplugged.

Alright, I have 2 computers here in this room. Both have XP. I want to connect them to each other via a cable.

However, although the cable is connected into both PC's (plugged securely into each Network card), AND the driver are up to date (checked WIndows Updates for additional), the icon shows up as still unplugged:

I know both network cards are fine as I have used them recently for another connection.

Is it possible the CORD is faulty?
