I don't really have a clue about PSP Marja. I thought rasters were Jamaicans who indulged in that 'different' tobacco Hang in for Uguel and Eric because they are the PSP experts...I'm just a rank amateur. BTW PM'd you with lots of links/tutorials etc.
Sorry I'm useless,
Brad.

Hey BB if you think you're useless, what chance do we have ?
I'm cheating a bit Spanner.....I'm using 3 progs. If I can't do what I want I just save and open it in a different prog. I mainly use PSP to finish stuff off...I'm really fond of a few plugin filters that I have....xero etc.
Cheers.

Same for me about Fantasy and Sci-fi, I simply love reading those books and making those pictures. A lot of fun, sweat and searching/learning.
On average one picture takes 1 to 2 hours time, although some are less than 15 minutes, like the quickie I posted.

I think someone else should choose your next subject, OK, Eldar and Uguel?
You all have done so great!! It seems like a new kind of magic to me!! And no full waste baskets or balled up papers all over! I like that too! LOL!
I've already chosen the theme 'Fire', so it's up to someone new ... like you, Hands Off or Steven and maybe Spanner.

Uguel is right, this thread is getting so rich!! It is a joy to come and see what is going on!!
It's a real joy watching those creations, different techniques and ideas.

Oh yes, Eldar!! That was a beautiful picture you did for Rita, she is over the moon about it! Hope she can find a medium to hang it on her wall, like she wants! Very inspiring!!
Thank you Marja. That picture took exactly 35 minutes. A great present for Rita, my buddy. Hope she'll find something to hang it on her wall.

Sorry to hear about your dodgy connection.

Here's my last creation about fire, but I couldn't resize it properly without losing to much quality, so I hosted it :

You're quite getting along with PSP.

Marja, I think I found what you meant by Raster Deformation.
You clicked the deformation tool and now it's active.
When opening a new picture it stays active. Double clicking gives you the option to promote it to a full layer.
Just click the Hand (tool above) and it will go away, return to normal.
I hope this is it.

Hi Eldar!

How are you? I guess I could do the next subject along with all of you, just to see how it's done?

Sometimes just reading and seeing results don't seem adequate or instructional enough for me!

The tool I turned on and can't turn off, I guess, is on the left side of the page at the top called the "raster deformity" tool- well, that is what it says here!? It's right under the little hand, the very next one - I couldn't find anything about it on the prog either! Next time I will make sure I can turn a tool off!! BEFORE I go messing with the buttons and controls, etc. LOL!

I have read so many Fantasy and Sci-Fi books sometimes they blend together, but is your new picture subject from a scene in a Fantasy book?

Like I said, thousands of them! Let's see, the Unicorn stuck in the snow, is a tube? The evil guy and the halo around him?

But the fairy is your own, or maybe not - she certainly takes center stage!! Looks like she is almost 3-D!! Very sweet too, Eldar. Now, quit messing around and get that Unicorn out of there!!
LOL!!

BigBuck I could only glance at your scary picture, he was creeeeeeepy!! So, I guess if that is what you were going for - you have succeeded! LOL!

Well, I typed a quick reply and before I could click to send it disapeared. Am I the only one with any problems here at Wilders'?

Cause it might be a part of my problem, but I am so dizzy now, I can't tell if it is mine or here.

If it wasn't at Wilders' I think I experienced my first computer earthquake!
The page just rolled up kinda and my post with it, then it came back to the last reply, which was mine?

If this sounds familiar, please point me to the right thread - I don't have a clue what is going on.

Does PSP cause any problems? I saw a google at techguy about PSP taking over the toolbar and stuff, got disconnected before I read it all.

BigBuck suggested I uninstall and reinstall- I think it might be a good idea, just to see, do you, Eldar?? Also we weren't sure if the tubes and frames I already downloaded could be put in another foder so they didn't just disapear! Thanks for any help or advice you guys can give!!

Sorry to take up the whole thread already!

OK, I tried clicking the tool off itself, I didn't know what the hand was for, thought it was telling me to stop what I was doing? (lol! well, I did) And maybe it should have!! LOL!!

I'll try that, Eldar!

It worked, last night every picture I opened had it, right in the middle of the picture.

Do you know what it deforms?? I was thinking maybe it distorts the picture, but it looked more like a,.. one of those saws that cut things in a circle?? So, I thought it would cutout a part of the picture.

What all subjects have you done now? I saw snow, snowflakes, water(like the reflet alot!), snow, fire, did you do wind? Rain? Rain is hard isn't it?

OK, I will quit talking and listen instead, sorry!

Why not make a suggestion and we'll all join in to show you how it can be done or what you want it to be. Show you the instructions on screen how it's done.
Quote:

That's why a good book about PSP helps, as well as the online tutorials. I'm still learning too, although I know a bit more. You never stop learning once you begin with PSP. It's like going back to school.

So it was this deformation tool you activated, like I showed in the screenshot? No harm done there, as long as you don't change anything in the Preferences.
Quote:

Me too, but my picture is my own creation without a scene from a Fantasy book. Just a lot of imagination, dreaming.
Quote:

The Unicorn is a tube and so is the fairy and Death inside the fireball. The halo is created by an image I downloaded, but erased the background. Afterwards I used a Effects -> Distortion Effects -> Twirl Factory Defaults. . The mountains are from a picture where I erased the background. The sky is created by the Flaming Pear -> Glitterato plugin. I selected the white background with the magic wand and applied the plugin.

Like I said the fairy is a tube, where I applied the chisel effect and some others.

Try it out Marja, you can achieve some nice effects. Even text you can deform with it.

I don't think installing PSP would cause these problems, just by installing.
Like BB told you, it's worth a try to uninstall and reinstall again, but be sure to reboot before reinstalling.
Let us know how it goes.

LOl, Marja, I think you clicked on the derform tool by accident.
If your problem persists, I would suggest that you send
a screenshot

The original one ...
As you can see, I changed the colour of the eyes, the blanket
and the background....in the end I added a little flame as if the
cat was playing with it.

Default Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

Most beginners or even intermediate users of PSP
are not comfortable with layers or rasters*. Since layers or rasters
can achieve multiple effects and amazing pictures, it is really
useful to know what they are and what we can do with
them. Here's a good basic guide for beginners that
explains the multiple possibilities of layers or rasters.
I would advise you to read it for it is well explained
and you will never regret having learned how to work
with layers.

*Paint Shop 7 uses the word "layer" whereas Paint Shop 9 uses the
word "Raster", but they both mean the same.

understanding layers

Here is a simple example of what you can do with
layers...I had an image of a sky....

And I want to add 2 tubes in it...a moon and a dragon.
First, I will promote my picture into a raster layer.
I will go into the "layers" menu and chose " Promote Background Layer"
see window below.....

>tip:each picture that you convert into a layer can be modified as
much as you want, the change that you make in the picture will
be applied on all the duplicated layers that will follow after<

Okay, now return to the Layers menu again and create a new layer for
we will add a tube in it that will be modified.

Click on Layers> New Raster Layer...

Now add a tube in it, go to your Tools Palett and click on the the
tube tool, see image below (left side of the image), and above on the left
you can see the moon tube I chose. Once you opened the tube you like,
you can resize it the way you want.

Choose any tube you like from your tube menu or download a tube from
this generous site:
kandy's tube
the tube of the moon was found at this address:
moon

Once you added the tube, you can modify its transparency.
Go to the Raster/Layers Palett, and move the little white arrows,
I reduced it to 90%, mode Normal.
You can reduce it more, depending the result you want to achieve.
Always make sure that the layer you want to modify is highlighted
otherwise the modification will not take into effect.
See screenshot below....
