The list above is basically all the (paid) security programs I eventually want to have on my computer. I currently have the following…
- NOD32 (Maximum Settings) - Hardware Firewall (Linksys Router) - Spyware Blaster - Spybot S&D - Ad-Aware SE - Common Sense (haha) Anyway I am guessing most will vote the software firewall, I think that I will probably end up getting process guard next but wanted to see what some people thought. O yeah about the AT, I kind of want to wait for TDS-4 but if I were to buy one now it would be BOclean with something like Ewido free or A2 free as a backup on demand scanner. I'm far from being an expert but in my opinion my first line of defense is my router - then my software firewall, Antivirus, process guard, regdefend, prevx, or "scotty"..........ect....

All MS security patches
Software firewall, try a few first to find out what one will suit you best. ProcessGuard + RegDefend & lastly an AT.What you should be aiming for is defence in depth using the minimum amount of system resources, a hard balance to attain but possible Pilli

I would say software firewall is a must to regulate outbond processes.

hey there MATT SMI!
i am a relative novice but heres what i think: webroots spysweeper, good move on your spybot, avg antivirus from grisoft which is FREE and great and a good bidirectional firewall which stops inbound kamakazis and the stuff already lurking in ur machine sendiing their vicious outbound morse code..calling home...try zonelabs zone alarm also free and great! stay cool roxdoc |

I'd get a software firewall followed by an A/T program.
But,that's just my opinion. ![]() |

Download a free software firewall like ZoneAlarm. It will give you outbound protection which is the real chink in your armour right now. That's free. Ewido Free is a great AT. No use waiting there.
Paid...I'd go with Process Guard and Spy Sweeper. Good luck! |

I voted for a software fw, but I'm tempted to reconsider to vote for a host based intrision prevention system like prevx, safe'n'sec, cisco.
For outbound control, you really only want trusted processes to connect. Any other would be disallowed. And a HIDS would prevent activation of an untrusted process, so reducing the need for outbound process control: there is no untrusted process, so no need to disallow such a process to connect.

Paid is the question, then Process Guard 3 gets my vote, add to this a FREE software firewall for outbound protection.
You may want to take a look HERE for a guide to some system setups. As well there are discussions HERE and even more HERE. Hope this helps... Let us know how you go. Cheers ![]()
