Default Steve Gibson invents broken SYNcookies (*ouch*)...

This rather interesting article at The Register spells it all out for you...(and please note, it has a rather negative spin).

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/24189.html

A brief quote to give you an idea what it's all about:
Quote:
He dares to call it "GENESIS" (Gibson's ENcryption-Enhanced Spoofing Immunity System). He dares to call it "Beautiful and Perfect." It's the product of "Three Key Innovations" for which he takes credit and which culminate in an "Encrypted Token," which is another way of saying a "SYNcookie", a quite useful thing developed by Dan Bernstein and Eric Schenk back in 1996.

He dares to claim "immunity" from SYN floods. Only Steve Gibson's lame knockoff is dangerously broken.

Ouch. (No discredit or disrespect intended by me in posting this, of course.) But the article only gets more negative from there.

Well, knowing the author has an ongoing quarrel with Gibson, personally I'm not that surprised with the tone.

Gibson has either friends or enemies; obviously comes with the territory and the way he expresses himself.

(mmm...at least one exception: personally I don't take sides).

regards.

I have always known there are those who do not like Mr. Gibson - though I did not know the person who wrote the article was one of them (although the article DID seem to stray somewhat away from the "report the news" side of it all and into "hostile territory" ).

Just the subjects on the newsgroups there tell it all: "Thomas C Greene is ranting again"...

Well, I have been crucified in the near past for critisizing Gibson in the near past. Gibson is at least a guru for many - those will not accept any criticism regarding Gibson. Although personally I do believe an open mind is a necessaty concerning all, Gibson included, I didn't mind one bit.

No doubt Gibson has - and still does - quite wortwhile things, and should be applauded for doing so. On the other hand: he's no divine creature. Just a human being with all coming with that.

regards.
