Default Windows user interface for the Ethereal

Packetyzer - Packet Analyzer for Windows
Packetyzer™ is a Windows user interface for the Ethereal packet capture and dissection library. Packetyzer can decode more than 483 protocols.

it sounds very good to me. the only thing is it comes with Ethereal and winpcap and i already have a version of winpcap installed. there's a forum too, so maybe i'll ask about it there.

ICE,

You can remove you're installed version of winpcap through the add/remove applet, it should be listed as "Packet Capture Driver" for versions 2.1 and newer (your's 3.1 beta 4?). In questions 2 through 4 here, you'll see a note about a possible leftover Packet.dll in the windows folder, but this shouldn't apply as I know you're on XP. I see the latest build for Ethereal
is 0.10.10, but it's only been out since March 11th with a few nifty updates.

In all honesty ICE, you're probably well aware of the info posted here...I think.

Just make sure to reboot the system (warning at top) after uninstalling the old one, then load Packetyzer?
I'll add it looks promising, but seems in it's "teething" stages. Further investigation might prove invaluable.
I'd also like to see NickS chime in to hear his thought's (if possible Nick).

Have fun buddy!

hi GF i'm not sure what to do. i like the sniffer i have now and i think i can only have one version of winpcap installed at a time i have downloaded a few other network tools tonight that need winpcap to run too, so i'm going to see which tools can work with what and try and have as many as possible installed. i downloaded SnoopAnalyzer. they also do something else called SnoopNetCop which can "detect [a] possible packet sniffing attack on your network" i wonder if i can catch myself using a sniffer?

Lightbulb Re: Windows user interface for the Ethereal

So what happened buddy, did you go with your/my gut and stick with something that can be utilized stand-alone...
run universally with WinPcap? I recall reading you can have multiple programs simultaneously accessing the winpcap driver, and so could achieve you're goal of having many of these type tools installed and running at the same time.

Being the freeware finding maven we've all come to love ....
have you seen this one? It also needs WinPcap (latest version OK), but only works on ethernet.

*Now* I wanna know, "did you catch yourself.......sniffing?"
