F-Prot v3.16b - REVIEW

    I liked the idea to make reviews here... So here's mine, about the new F-Prot :)

    Installation:
    Easy as it can get, the standart installation or customize your own.

    Recource usage:
    No slowdown notice...
    F-StopW.exe - 400k - 3.020k (on-access scanner)
    fdavupdm.exe - 1.544k (update monitor)
    Holy... The lowest memory usage I've ever seen...

    Detection:
    I recommend decide this your own at: http://www.av-comparatives.org/
    But you can't deny that the F-Prot detection is not bad at all :)

    Interface:
    It's plain and simple. If you are a professional user you will like it... Computer n00bs/newbies will find it to complicated.

    Personal opinion:
    A very nice product I think. The scanner is just fast and takes so less ram that's wonderfull. The detection is just ok, nothing special. But I think it will protect you right. The price is very low too, that's an big plus.
    Besides of that, F-Prot has fast updates on new big threats...

    Please comment your review. I used it for some hours now and I like it :)

    (scanning ~23500 files took 6:03 minutes)

    Buy it...I think its a good product. But I use ArcaVir already and love it.

    I was totally dissapointed with F-Prot. No matter what i have thrown at it, it has hardly ever catch anything. F-Prot also has a very bad detection on Jotti (similar detection as for standalone Win version).
    No matter what i see on VB100% and other reviews i'm dissapointed with F-Prot.
    And everyone is talking about F-Prot like the best thing on earth. Hell even free AntiVir,AVG and avast! detected more when i tried.

    DOS viruses or old stuff. When i tried actual ITW stuff collected by me (usually from other users PCs and from P2P) almost nothing was cought. Very bad.

    I've been using F-Prot for Windows for about 3 years. I can only judge by the result: It has kept me virus free. It does pop up and block stuff occasionally on some websites. So i am a happy users.

    the only thing i hate about f-prot is the lacking of incremental updates
    and the poor configurability..

    I don't think that's very true... I tested here with some very recent worms and trojans, catched them all...

    lol, it's Frisk not Symantec :p
    The samples contained the latest viruses like:
    W32/Sober.M@mm
    W32/Kelvir.C
    W32/Kelvir.D
    W32/Kelvir.B
    Ofcource they're from the company it's self... But I think you should give them a chance... :)

    lol you don't understand me. If they posses the samples,they've already added them to virus definitions for sure (i'm 300% positive about that).

    Yeah,if so i'm very interested in those legendary viruses that were crawling around years ago. I had a very nice database of many legendary viriis,but it got corrupted :( Bye bye Melissa,BubbleBoy,DAME,Brain...
    I would also like to get hands on first polymorphic virii known as Tequila.
    State of the art stuff. Priceless collection(well,it was),at least for me.

    EDIT: I use term ITW for all malware that can be obtained in any way by normal users. I don't care about stupid ITW and ZOO sample crap. How can it be ZOO if i can get it off WWW sites or P2P? :rolleyes:

    This is a very nice AV, but lacks email clients support and incremental updates, so it's a nice for backup...

    Frisk promised us version 4 of F-prot by late 2004. Then they moved the date to early in 2005. Still a dream -- vaporware.

    So now comes a "b" update. Not even 3.17 -- just 3.16b!

    I can see it now. March 2010 & we all shout joyfully: "O boy! Here comes 3.16z." :doubt:
