Default Two "Cookies" directories?

I've just found two seperate "Cookies" directories, which both seem to be being used by IE. Using MRU-Blaster to kill any cookies I don't want, it scans and cleans the x:\WINDOWS\Cookies directory, that is great! However, cookies in the x:\WINDOWS\Temp\Cookies directory were last modified on the 22 January 2003, which leads me to beleive cookies are being placed in there aswell. I have checked IE options and made sure the x:\WINDOWS\Cookies is where cookies are stored.

Can I safely delete the x:\WINDOWS\Temp\Cookies directory (aswell as Temporary Internet Files and History in the Temp folder)?

This may be faster if you use IE

open properties/advanced and check

"empty temporary internet files folder when broswer is closed"

then re-boot.......see if that works for you

You can safely delete anything in the temp folder under normal circumstances.
To make sure: run Drive Cleanup found under Start > Programs > Accessories > System Utilities
It will tell you what is safe to delete inside the temp folder.
Just let us know if these folders are recreated, because then there is something more going on.

Pieter

Thanks for the speedy reply! I will try that solution when I reboot soon, and I'll post back with my (hopeful) success story later. Thanks again.

-edit-

I will try your suggestion right now, Pieter.

Thanks! I deleted everything in the Temp folder (except for a temp ZoneAlarm file which wouldn't let me) and the 'extra' folders are now gone. I'm not sure if they were before aswell, but cookies are now in the WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files folder aswell as WINDOWS\Cookies.

Unfortunately I didn't see your first post either, snowy.
Doing it that way first could have told us right away if something was wrong.

Hi,

There are NO cookies in the WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files folder they are just shortcuts to WINDOWS\Cookies.

Once the cookies in WINDOWS\Cookies are deleted, they are just harmless orphan shortcuts as the target doesn't exist any longer.

Hi Snowy,

No they are not, try by yourself : delete the cookies in the
cookies folder then go to you TIF and click on a "cookie" :
you 'll get the message Windows don't find etc...
