Well as I said when you use 'kavupd' it copies all files into a folder called 'bases' on C drive...so you'll have to copy all files in that folder to your eScan directory...Or you unzip MWAV.exe to C:\bases so that it will automatically update itself...In this case u have to start 'MWAVSCAN' from C:\bases.

    flinchlok,

MicroWorld tells me that the SuperSecure database has now been integrated into malw001.avc, malw002.avc, malw003.avc files. Figures:

    malw001.avc:- probably AdWare
    malw002.avc:- probably PornWare
    malw003.avc:- probably RiskWare

I'll see what else I can find.

I've done all of this but when I use "kavupd" it downloads all the def's to c:/downloads folder, why and how do I stop this ?

    Win XP SP2

    Thanks

umm Thx Firecat...let the update gets over..think it would take some time. But once i copy the the whole Bases folder to my original e scan directory then i can safely delete the Bases folder or should remain as it is ? :)

U have to copy what is in the bases folder, not the folder itself! But every time you update you'll have to do this.

Therefore, its a better option to simply put eScan into C:\bases, i.e. extract it into C:\bases.

Arite...let the update finish at once then i guess i would delete the X Base folder & re run the Escan exe & upzip it to base folder..perhaps that would be the ideal thing :) As for now..as Fast game mentioned Dos Promt aint telling me where it is downloading the bases...so far Downloads & base folder is empty & updating continues...so long lets wait & see...Sorry Firecat...bugging you a lot...thx for ur patience :)

Now if you extract to C:\bases it will overwrite your updates. In this case you have two options:

    1)Backup the files on C:\Bases
2)Copy the files from C:\Downloads and put into C:\bases after you have unzipped eScan into C:\bases

Ah Blessed...it was downloaded in C:\Download folder....Firecat. Now may i delte the X Base Folder & then re-unzip the Mwav.exe to C:\Bases & then paste the downloaded files to Bases folder....i guess thats the process? & after pasting those should i keep those in Downloaded files or just simply delete? Thx again :)

What do you do? Just leave the Downloads folder as it is. Now unzip eScan into C:\bases and then copy all the files in C:\Downloads into C:\bases. After this your updates will go fine...just run kavupd.exe and it will automatically update.

I'm really sorry to be a PITA (Pain In The A$$), but, that appears to also not be correct.

If you compare http://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates/ & http://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x/ you will see these differences (ignoring the date/time):

    Code:
    [b]avp.klb[/b] different size: 8998 vs 9456
    [b]avp.set[/b] different size: 1245 vs 1306

    [b]ext001.avc[/b] ONLY in updates_x
    [b]ext002.avc[/b] ONLY in updates_x
    [b]ext003.avc[/b] ONLY in updates_x
    [b]ext999.avc[/b] ONLY in updates_x

    [b]kavset.xml[/b] different size: 29765 vs 31255

    [b]x-files.avc[/b] ONLY in updates_x
    So, it appears to me...

    Extended Database = (ext001.avc + ext002.avc + ext003.avc + ext999.avc)

    SuperSecure Database = (ext001.avc + ext002.avc + ext003.avc + ext999.avc + X-files.avc)

Having said all that, the Extended Database Web pages are incorrect as far as the names of the files.

    No o_O
Well thats what I did but I download Mwav.exe to c:\downloads and then moved it to c:\bases then extracted.

I erased the c:download folder and now when I use "kavupd" thats inside the c:\bases folder it makes a c:\download folder and updates there

    Firecat,

I have a Bases folder in c drive. I did not make it, and do not know how it got there unless the Kaspersky zip download makes it and puts it there. It is obviously made for the KAV downloads.

Within the folder are a Kaspersky anti virus service library, an engine DT file, plus many others. Some show a date of 19 Feb and others 25 Feb. It is evident that this is the folder that is being unzipped to for at least some of the updates. Maybe the Kaspersky updates that I have downloaded have gone there instead of my Mwav folder.

There is one item in the Bases folder that I wonder about. It is Microsoft Office Outlook Configuration file. It shows as engine.cfg. The date it shows is the 19th as many of the Kaspersky items.
Is this something that should be in there?

I do not know for sure how to get the definitions to the right place. I assume that if I copy the entire Bases folder, and then paste the contents in the Mwav folder it would put them in the right place in eScan. Is this correct, or is there a particular file within mwav where I should paste them? I suspect that the Microsoft file is a part of the Bases folder to show something.

If I can copy and paste the contents of the bases folder to the mwav folder, it would be necessary to delete the contents of the bases folder after transferring the contents, wouldn’t it?

Since I have mwav in the folder C:/Program Files/mwav I assume that I could not move the entire folder from there to the Bases folder. I might then prefer to copy, paste, and delete bases contents each time. Am I understanding this correctly?
If I move mwav to c bases, will I have to start over and download the escan mwav exe to bases and then delete the folder in program files?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    OK flichlok,

I think I can put this thing together...from my (and one developer from MicroWorld) I have seen that avp.set is controlling which files will be used by the AV Scanner to detect malware...so ext bases avp.set is smaller than Xbases avp.set b'coz it does not have the extra line for x-files.avc

So your right, the ext001/002/003/999 are the Extended bases, x-files is for the SuperSecure and avp.set is the file that controls which AVC files are currently being used by the scanner.

    Well JerryM,

Yes, 'kavupd' downloads all updates to C:\bases, not to your MWAV folder

I assume that you currently have MWAV installed in C:\Program Files\MWAV. You can move the updates from C:\bases.

Yes, the presence of engine.cfg is normal.

Only move the CONTENTS (all files) of C:\bases to C:\Program Files\MWAV and NOT THE FULL FOLDER!

It might ask you something like overwriting or replacing something...Let it do so, click 'Yes'.

Then it is safe to delete 'bases' folder. It will recreate itself everytime you update...

You have to do this every time you update...If you want to have a better way I'll have to explain all over again, I think I'll PM you for that...But first tell me whether this is OK or you want it to do automatic update?

    Regards,
    Firecat

    Hi Firecat,

I copied and pasted the contents in the Bases folder to the wav folder. It worked fine. However, it is going to be somewhat cumbersome to do it at each update.
I would like to do it the easier way.

Now since I can copy and paste contents of the bases folder into the mwav folder, why can't I do the reverse, and then delete the mwav folder? Will I have to download the escan mwav exe and start from scratch? That is not a big problem, but I was just wondering as to the easiest way to accomplish it.

PM me if you prefer, or I wil give you my email. I think you can get it from my registration.

    Thanks,
    Jerry
