Will microsoft eat up Symantec or Mcafee next? Bill Gates really has a very good appetite! He wants microsoft to be the one and only one in the corporate security market.

Or maybe Bill is gonna buy Kaspersky. Then he'll buy Zone Labs for making firewalls...Then we'll have Steve Jobs launching 'Apple AntiVirus' based on BitDefender and McAfee engine and 'Apple Firewall' based on Kerio...

LET THE NEXT LEVEL (APPLE VS MICROSOFT) BEGIN.....

I think it's political - they are not going to buy an eastern european company for "political" reasons... also, they appear to be going after the enterprise market FIRST - the focus of Sybari is firmly enterprise - if you look at their front page, it doesn't even appear that their sole focus is AV solutions - but SPAM and content filtering for exchange and other solutions play a major part of the deal...

To me... it looks like M$ is moving into markets with much more recurring revenue - the monthly licensing of operating systems, application servers - you can bet AV, SPAM filtering and other systems will have monthly or annual update fees attached...

Not again.

If Microsoft continues to buy up the different computer related markets, it will be a full blown monopoly. This will mean Microsoft will not have to be as competitive in price, quality or frequency of product upgrades and improvement.

But we can always have an antitrust case right? Again, MS is offering AntiSpyware for free. This would again become some sort of monopoly. They should have something like Ad-Aware, Pro version should be paid and have realtime monitor etc.

I would personally prefer it if a large company would challenge Microsoft over the market, would probably cause a drop in prices due to higher competition and more effort would be put into upgrading the products.

Doesn't it seem like the antitrust laws are not applied to them? Any other time a company has reached that level of domination in their industry, they're broken up, AT&t for example. When has Microsoft received anything more than a slap on the wrist? They just keep getting bigger and more dominant.

After they get done with them, will they still be good? They have a way of wrecking good ideas, their "firewall" being a prime example.

Yes...I agree Ailric. But then if MS bundled AV and AS with Windows then will you get to remove it? thats the question because if I have separate AV/AS then I do not need MS AV/AS right?

Thats the only doubt I had...
