I got a problem some one struck me with a 5 different types of viruses to cover up a web controller. got rid of every thing but this. even after reformatting my comp. 17 times every witch way i can think of i acciddently came across it it's called msexcel.exe..........i'm,,,, just holding it in check the comp real slow half installed

 

Hi, the version of the Rbot worm you have/had links to IRC channels, to give access to your PC via a back door.

If you are backing up some programs/files and putting them back on after the format, it’s possible you’re just putting back the worm or a controller.

Follow these steps for complete safety.

You will need to prepare by downloading the security apps: (Preferably from a clean PC) Antivirus, Firewall, and Anti Spyware. (choose which ever programs you prefer, my personal recommendations are Nod32 Av, Zonealarm pro, Adaware se / Microsoft Anti Spyware.) You can add subtract later if you change your mind. Download an internet browser, Mozilla Firefox or Opera.


Save them to a memory stick or disk

Get the Windows updates on disk. (i.e. SP2)

Have your copy of Windows and the Key handy.

Get familiar with the security programs you are going to install and how to configure them.



1. Disconnect your computer from any other PC and net connection.

2. Place the Windows OS disk in the CD drive.

3. Re-Start, it will boot to the windows disk. (When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM)

4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.

5. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP. (Delete the old partion it was installed on)

6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows XP Setup. (During setup your computer will reboot. When it does you will be asked to press any key to boot from CD DO NOT press anything otherwise it will just start the setup again from scratch)

7. Install Windows Updates from disk. (If you don’t have them on disk skip this step)

8. Install Anti Virus software. (You will probably need to restart for steps 8 & 9.)

9. Install Firewall.

10. Install Anti Spyware.

11. Configure Firewall, Antivirus and Anti Spyware.

12. Connect to internet (install your drivers software if needed for connection)

13. Update the Antivirus 1st, Firewall 2nd, Anti Spyware 3rd.

14. Check Windows Updates, Install if needed.

15. Install Mozilla or Opera browser.

16. Your system is now safe, run the Antivirus and Anti Spyware scans as a precaution.

17. Install any programs you have, preferable on manufacturer disks, if using burnt copies scan the disk first.


General Advice:

Only use Internet Explorer when you have to.

Do not install software you don’t know, get a recommendation or read a review first, too many programs come with Spyware nowadays.

Be cautious of Email from unknown addresses.

Get to know your security software, how to set it up for best results, updates etc.

Practice safe surfing, i.e.don't visit crack sites, virus writer’s forums, bad porn sites etc.

Are those two things next your nick eyes or um? LOL

I would only add that when I reformat, I like to reflash the motherboard BIOS.
This gets rid of the problem if uou have an BIOS viri and it doesn't hurt anything if you are sure you know how to reflash the BIOS.
most sites give perty good directions.
Then in step 5, I would just mention delete primary DOS partition, THEN create a new one. It will want to know if you want to do FAT 32 or NTFS.
I been using the NTFS on my XP Pro machine. Usualy the flash utility is loaded on a floppy disk so I guess you should have a floppy disc present on your computer. To think not many people think there is a use for a floppy anymore LOL
I would defenitly install PG right after your SP2(with Disc) and windows updates, if you are installing all the updates off disc.
Then set PG in learning mode and away ya go. One thing about PG is it only allows two reboots befor switching off learning mode, so if you have alot of apps that require reboot after install, I would recommend turning learning mode back on before installing the rest of your software

I may have done this a time or two, but NEVER, NEVER, AGAIN!
