Default Scanning Files manually before opening?

Just wondering whether scanning a file manually (attachment from an email downloaded to the harddrive) using Nod32 before opening it is necessary? Would this file be automatically scanned by AMON when opened or previously scanned during the download by IMON?
While I can see the manual scan in the Nod32 log, I don't actually notice any scanning activity when opening a file. Could someone please clarify

Default Re: Scanning Files manually before opening?

not necessary if you ask me... the resident nod32 scanner will scan during the open phase anyway - you will slow yourself down by manually scanning as well.
