WHY UPGRADES DON'T WORK AUTOMATICALLY

Hi everybody,

got every setting as required but...I have to perform my upgrades manually, even after hours of utilisation...no batch upgrade...

I turned Mcaffe down to get Nod, which I confirm is a wonder. But these small things drive me nuts...Anybody for a kind reply or a link

I gather you are talking about virus signature updates, and not engine updates?

Do you have severs to "Choose Automatically?"

Can you check your update settings found in post number 32 onwards: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=37509&page=2

Can you please copy your Event Logs as per screenshot and paste them here.

what type of Internet connection do you use? (fixed line or dial-up) What happens if you go to NOD32 system tools - Scheduler/Planner, right-click the Regular update task and select Run now? If nothing happens, please check the Event log for a possible error.

1) Herebelow is the copy of my event log

2) On my advanced update setup menu the fixed line/lan option was selected.

I am currently using an ADSL internet connection. I thus selected the dial- up. When I performed the "RUN NOW" task, nothing happened.

Hi Tony, for starters your Username and or Password are incorrect. Your User Name and Password are CASE SENSITIVE, and as such must be typed in precisely, better still COPY and PASTE each into the Control Centre\Update\update\Setup make sure you do not copy a "space" at the beginning or end of your UN or PW as this will be seen as part of it.

Then try a manual update and check your event logs again.

This is WAY off topic, but what do you have as your wallpaper? From the little I can see, it appears to be some form of record book Jack-a-lope with a serious case of pasty white "Big Toe's" for paws. But that's just a shot in the dark from the little I can see and it will not affect your updating problem.

Select LAN / fixed line.


When you place your UN and PW into Control Centre\Update\update\Setup and then click “OK” and then “Update Now” does this manually update, or do you get a incorrect UN and PW error message?

Are you using a Wifi connection?

-I read the thread on 11001, sorry about my ignorance but it does not say much to me....What appears clearly here is that nod can't get connected automatically to all the servers

-My password and username are correct now....

maybe this is relevant:

1) The Nod 32 icon tray did not appear automatically after I switched my PC on, or after each reboot. I thus decided to have it launched form the windows start menu

2) I get connected to the internet after Nod 32 starts to operate. This is maybe the reason why I face those connection errors.

3) When I perform manually the update it goes OK and finds the server by itself

4) When I perform the "run now" fucntion from the schedule planner nothing happens and no event is reported

This looks to me as the problem here - why wouldn't it show up - looks like a damaged install

That looks like NOD is trying to connect to its servers when you do not have a connection to the Internet established.

If you are not on a permanently on broadband connection you need to tell NOD update that you are on a dial up connection, and configure your connection settings within Windows accordingly, since I think NOD takes its cue to run updates from the Windows connection settings.

How exactly you need to configure your Windows settings I'm not sure, since I am on a permanently live broadband connection, and have both NOD and Windows configured for a LAN connection.

Can you please download a FRESH copy of Nod32 from www.nod32.com

Uninstall your current version.

Remove the Eset Folder from C Drive> Program Files.

Install the FRESH copy of Nod32 that you downloaded above.

Let us know how you go…

gentlemen,

my install was a christmas patchwhork.....
I went through a fresh install...

-1) I selected "I don't have a proxy" during the install procedure

-2) I selected "Dial-up " on the scheduler planner since I have an ADSL connection .... on that basis

-3) It updated alone after 1 min

-4) CC icon is there automatically

I went through 4 reboots....Works fine and no conflits.

My best thanks to all the Nod 32 freaks out there. Your support was great and professional.

Good to see you have it all working, though you should not be on Dial-up, you should be on LAN/fixed line, as this is what ADSL is.

I don't know where Tony64 is, but at least here in the UK a lot of ADSL users are on a type of dial-up connection, where they only connect on demand, and are typically issued a dynamic address.

It looks to me, as I mentioned in my previous post, that the gethostbyname errors in Tony64's log are typically caused by NOD trying to reach the update servers when the ADSL line is not connected, and thus there is no route to the host.

That is why I suggested that Tony64 should configure NOD to be on a dial-up connection, since otherwise NOD will assume a permanently live connection, even when there is none.

I am on a permanently up, 24/7 ADSL line with a static address, since that is important to me, and I took the trouble to choose an ISP that would give me that access, but over here it is not typical of non-business ADSL usage.

I believe that is what's called PPoE. You get dsl speeds through a dial up connection. Could be wrong though.
