Please Moderator Pilli, let me repost my question here, for lack of a better forum - as this is not strictly a PortExplorer question, BUT definitely about a related tool by [b]DiamondCS{/b], their free "ping" utility which makes use of the Windows "icmp.dll".
I have noticed the DiamondCS ICMP ping will succeed when the Windows built-in ping fails, and sometimes conversely. Can someone explain why these 2 pinging utilities behave differently ? TIA -- Cerno |

OK Czerno, I will close this thread and hopefully, if DCS have time to answer, they can re-open it.

I guess there might just be slight differences in how we use ICMP.DLL, plus things like packet size and other flags can affect it.
You might just be getting "lucky" too, because some servers will not respond to a ping for a minute or two, but then will, so by the time you try it in another program it is working again.
