I did a search and it seems it wasn't discussed in any great detail. Is any body using it? How is its resource usage and its effectiveness?

I am using NOD not Panda at the moment but during the latest bagle outbreak Panda's TruPrevent and NOD's Advanced Heuristic's were able to detect all three without updates. Every other AV needed an update to detect them. I can't comment on mem usage or anything like that since I am not using it, but it works.

It was a major resource hog on my box[P3 667 with 256mb] and made my system unstable,I would not recommend it unless you have a much faster setup

The new version TruPrevent 2005 is more stable than the previos one.
However, it's still a resource hog (especially memory wise).
And it also creates quite a lot of processes and services.

Also if you have an AMD 64Bit CPU it doesn't play well with the Data Exicution Prevention (DEP) that is hardwired into the CPU's and supported by Windows XP SP2. You have to put most of the Panda files plus svchost.exe into DEP's exclusion list to get it to run without coursing Windows to crash with an RPC error.

I have repeatedly e-mailed Panda's technical support about this but have, as yet, received no reply.

I also experienced lack of response from Panda support.

I've installed TruPrevent Personal trial version when it first came out and
It caused a process to crash during boot.

I sent Panda support a detailed report with debugger info showing exactly
    where the crash occured.
    Never heard from them.

At least they improved the stability in the new 2005 version.
I think they have good technology but their implementation leaves a lot
    to be desired.

panda truprevent uses lots of memory and the new 2005 version caused problems when i tried to update my programs online. and the trial for the 2005 version would not install because i had NOD32. trial installers for both versions had problems with language. v1.5 - installed in english/spanish but the program ended up in spanish neways. 2005 - installer changed languages midway. and both of them gave me an RPC server unavailable error when the windows installer loaded. as for effectiveness, version 1.5 blocked a few threats i havent rele tried 2005. overall i dont rele recommend truprevent as its more trouble than its worth.

Its a hellish resource hogging program. * thumbs down*
It made my computer run like a tortoise. It took up almost all my RAM 256MB, and made my hard disk drive become extremely fragmented and I used perfectdisk in order to clean it up. Since then, I uninstalled this product and now my computer is once more flying like superman.

I had much the same problems trying to install a trial version of TruPrevent. The installer switched to Spanish and gave a cryptic error message about "antivir." When I contacted Panda support all I gor in response was some watery suggestion that I had previous AV installed - well, hell yes, of course I did. But Panda claims TruPrevent is compatible with ALL AV software, so this explanation was utterly useless. OK, enough whining. Now the question is: is there another similar application out there that works, is stable, not resource hoggish and has halfway decent support? o_O

While not really a behaviour blocker like Tru Prevent, NOD with it's Advanced Heuristics is actually more effective according to a recent PCMag review. PreVX is also similar to Tru Prevent.

    And Panda;

Info about Prevx is at www.prevx.com

Anyone knows where we can get PrevX v1? v2 is hated all round, despite some major issues being fixed.

@no13 - im sure you can find it on edonkey but for me prevx v2 is working just fine.

@flyrfan111 - i rele fail to to see the similarity between truprevent and prevx. they block threats but their methods and targets are different.

@technodrome - although not rele similar to truprevent, a sandboxing application would be interesting to add to my arsenal of security progs. thanks for the suggestion.

Tiny Personal firewall is the best known sandbox (way too many things to configure).
Norman Anti virus also has a sandbox, but I'm not too sure how we can use it.

Actually they are quite similar behind the scene in how they run, it just isn't obvious to the user. Both are behaviour blockers, it is just that Tru Prevent has a rather extensive whitelist that automatically allows known safe applications to do certain functions while PreVX asks the user about every application taking certain actions. Yes they are different, but also similar in many ways.

I trialled it a year or so ago and it caused a noticeable delay using some programs. I have a quite old PentiumII box though, and I can't speak of any improvements Finjan has made since then as I don't keep up with their development. I am sure they still offer a trial, give it a try.

    Re: Finjan SurfinGuard

Thanks to Technodrome and flyrfan111 for their responses to my query. Alas, PrevX 2.0 appears to run only on WIN 2000 & WIN XP, and I run WIN ME. So, i downloaded & installed SurfinGuard and so far it seems to run discreetly and with little resource usage. Guess I'll have to put it to a REAL test & go to a few skanky porn sites to see if it fends off the Internet vermin LOL. :D

If you really want a content filter that blocks even browser vulnerabilities... www.proxomitron.info www.kye-u.com
Get proxomitron. works as advertised. HIGHLY effiecient. EXTREMELY tweakable (fills out forms, logins, cleans cookies, removes inappropriate words from sites, destroys ads and links to ads... everything!!!)

Many say here that it is a resource hog. That is all I need to know. Not going on my machines. [Period]. :p You were warned. ;)
