    Glad to hear Buck...just that I'm so damn leary of wallpaper sites with flash and advertising.
    What's really nice is they're member's of The Websensei Hosting Alliance with their very own, dedicated server. :cool:

    Gottcha ICE! ;)

    hello :D , sorry for being abit slow in replying, i was deeply involved in searching through more freeware links :D , you've brought me back to reality :D

    to get that theme you need to install The UXTheme Multi-Patcher v2.5.1 then you can install any mstyles theme you like :cool: . its like Style Xp, but free.

    here is the theme from above http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10955957/ just click on the downdard pointing arrow. then when you extract the zip seach for RoyalFour.msstyles
    there're hundreds of msstyles themes i'll post links in abit im just going to have a cup of tea :D

    if you mean helen321. i have to admit i do know someone called helen, but all of her posts from her PC are me :eek: asking questions about her computer. maybe i'll talk to my Doc about posting as a girl half the time :p

    just to make clear in the post before this you need to install the theme patcher then reboot to be able to install msstyles. i think Bowserman uses it too.

    Thanks Ice, I was a pinch involved myself..... :D ;) I'm glad you didn't say xpthemes,
    cause I'm not about to spend any money on looks. I'm aware a few of those sites, guess I never noticed that dwnld... :p

    Help me out with this if you would, am I limited to a certain "type" of theme,
    meaning a style from a particular website because there are so many different names and style extensions.....yikes! :eek:
    Besides the sites you mentioned, I looked at a few others but find it difficult to figure out whats compatible. This is something I'll have to look into a little at a time, otherwise you could spend hours just browsing...I noticed complete
    and partial skins with various degrees of stability or bugs so I guess it's not cut and dry. :doubt: Seems to me the safe
    bet's to go with an author who's done a few, NOT the begginer arts...and not an area I really research...
    "fill me in buddy!" :D :cool: I did notice virtualplastic has some great info on system mods... :ninja:

    BTW, I feel posting as a woman could have certain advantages :D ...where's you're shrink located? :D
    Thanks again ICE, mighty "Prince Of Downloads!" :D :D :cool:

    yes, you are limited to just the visual styles [VS] themes, they have the .msstyles extension. that doesnt lessen your chose of styles, just the extension used. so you cant use windowsblinds themes or XP style themes this link should take you to the forum called Completed Visual Styles. so they should be safe to use, although, i would read through the threads first just to check that no one is complaining about any major bugs. other forums also have VS DLs too, but i only use the link i gave because ive never had any problems there.

    there are some theme packs that come with spyware so if you're not sure if its a VS dont use it. :) HTHs

    also if you havent installed the theme patch yet, just be careful of any programs that monitor your system, because it modifys your theme.dll then reboots your system. maybe check to see if it can be done in safe mode.

    Appreciate the clarification ICE, and the check on clean dwnld's. Believe me, you're mention of a read-through is something I'm pretty darn thorough about.....pick'in up a baddie is not my idea of a good time (possible chance for removal experience :D ), and always leary of branding or package "add-ons" :mad:

    I've dwnld'ed the patch, but still looking into the hardcore edit (still exploring manual tasks, calculating nature you know :D ). Thanks buddy for the additional notes.......always grateful. :-* ;)

    i think the first part of that hardcore edit is the patch-

    Some additional info to perfect your theme and/or alternative ways to accomplish changes:

    * You can bypass Windows checking if themes are signed, by patching uxtheme.dll yourself. That is, if you're comfortable with a hex editor. Here's the changes necessary, documented by Ishmael at Neowin, thanks :):

    o At offset 0x00009C27, change "02" to "00";
    o At offset 0x0000B624 to 0x0000B629, change the string "0F 8C 80 00 00 00" to "90 90 90 90 90 90";
    o At offset 0x0000B6BB to 0x0000B6C2, change the string "81 EC 80 00 00 00 56 57" to "33 F6 8B C6 C9 C2 08 00";
    o At offset 0x0000B71E and 0x0000B71F, change the string "7C 38" to "90 90".

    Since these are made available all around, as patchers and what not - two plain .dll files, one for XP fresh, one for XP with Servicepack 1 installed. Version 6.00.2600.0000 (105 kB) and 6.00.2800.1106 (106 kB) - check file version and backup original file first.

    when i said the theme.dll earlier i ment the uxtheme.dll. i get abit lost reading the rest, so im not too sure what they're on about o_O

    all i can say is Resource Hacker might help if you are going to change things manually. ive used it in the past to put my name on the start button :eek: :D . but only after backing-up the registry first.

    Thanks again for the elaboration Ice. Little in between things (jumping back and forth :p ) so I'm confident on the edit, back-ups in place. :D Don't worry, I'll be doing a close cross-check of Neowin and Virtual...
    see what else I may want to play with! :D

    RH was one of my earlier dwnlds (still one of the few programs I've carefully chosen for it's usefulness), and you picked up that start button gig from one elder geek!!! :D Consider me slow when it comes to visual changes, but I'm glad a helpful
    fella like yourself is into this sort of thing.....I'm doubly sure many have silently gained from your experiences :ninja:
    Always happy to assist you also when I'm able to buddy... :)

    GF you may be right about the start button and the elder geek, but also around that time i was using a program called the tweaking experience, do you know it?. it's with-out-doubt the king of tweaking programs. its abit like X-Setup Pro, but it may have more tweaks, and it shows you how to do them manually. theres also afew more things to it. i cant get to the site :mad: but this is its link...

    http://windowsxp.homedns.org/xp/asp/twg/twg.asp
    http://windowsxp.homedns.org/

    i think it can be downloaded from this link. the bottom one- xp-tweaks31.msi i might download and see if it's it. i stopped using it because it was about the first program i ever downloaded and i didnt realise that you could get programs which would do it all for you rather than having to do it all manually. so after having to do about 3/4 reformats, after making mistakes and not backing up the registry, i stopped using it. :D

    if i DL i'll let you know :D

    Ice, really got'a tell you, I do NOT have many programs on my system.....I don't even have all that much protection (good essentials though), but my choices are mostly exploratory tools. I'm not overly trusting of too many apps out there to begin with, and until my understanding increases.....I prefer to execute tasks manually. Consider me calculating. All these skins and themes are truly astounding, but it's just more I have to take into account when issues arise.

    Like I mentioned previously, it's great there's persons like youself to put these apps through their paces (lord knows how much stuff you look into that we DON'T hear about :eek: :D ). Just think, concerning non-security softwares, you'll be able to answer almost anyone (that's not to say you lack experience with sec apps also ;) ) about what such and such can or can't do.

    I'm just trying to keep it simple and allow myself some time...I don't fancy the thought of relying on software to do my deeds (then I'd miss everything that goes on undercover :ninja: ) Just keep doing what you are becomming known to be good at, DOWNLOADING NEW SOFTWARE! :D :cool: You bring Wilder's the goods, and if there are problems, there are all sorts of specialists here to cover a wide range of support. IMO, it's a win/win situation.......oh mighty "Prince Of Downloads!" :D :-*

    An older one- from way back in June! It gets changed almost weekly as I fabricate new fractals to ponder - and I didn't preserve newer ones. Current one is blank, owing to not having proper OS yet installed and laziness surrounding that.
