Really excellent, sending encrypted request through their VPN. A bit slow.

Best way to use : save your startpage encrypted as a link among your favorites. Check the options you need (available : cookies, scripts, ads, images, referrers) so you will be able to surf immediatly anonymously. You may create a favorites file bis with all you encrypted favorites in order preventing to enter them manually each time.

Worth while a try.

Lol, Have a look at ghostsurf : good privacy with good settings but does not send encrypted requests.

Jack.I hope I don't offend you or anyone else for that matter.But under the privacy policy tab there is mention of two ad companies,Cydoor and advertising.com.I checked guardster out a few weeks ago and liked what VPN had to offer untill I saw Cydoor mentioned!If nothing else this is just a "heads up" in case you didn't see that.

Jack - I like Guardster too. Pretty dern fast. Also, there are two others that I have found to be consistently fast. Of course, by placing them in this forum - they may not be for long!

These are all good feebie services, but I still like chaining anonymous proxies. Just a personal preference. But, Jack hit on a good service. Guardster does a good job and yes, it's fast most of the time.

No offence lol : I forgot to mention it because I don't see any ad using an up to date Hosts file preventing ads servers, tracking sites and ad-spywares to phoning home. Thx for your comments

Hi, Jack. Just some quick feedback on Guardster. I'm trying it out at work, without the usual adblocking software I use at home. And aside from the major popup ad bombardment I also found that it does not work on https sites, only http and ftp. That seems to be a common situation for most programs, from Proxomitron to AdShield, but by the same token, it seems like something that is/will be/needs to be addressed soon since at least some ad companies are circumventing the Ad blocking programs by way of incorporating https rather than http. In fairness to the service, though, a big warning popped up letting me know I was about to enter a non-Guarded zone. (I couldn't resist the temptation to see how the tests at GRC would come out.) But as others have mentioned, the whole topic is definitely very interesting. I'll be curious to see how it runs at home with AdShield running. I would just add that it does appear to be pretty quick. And a final note: https was, btw, how GRC was always able to read the real IP's of people, secure they were totally anonymous. To his credit, though, he revealed the 'trick', although I'm sure he secretly got a kick out of each and everyone's 'shock'; those of us who was SURE we'd beaten it, only to see our real IPs glaring back at us from our screens. And again, in fairness, I think he mainly got a kick out of it because he's just trying to alert us to some of the real dangers of not only monopolies, but of surfing the Internet supposedly anonymously as well.

real quick comment: this <guardstart> is pure SNAKE!!!
the website clearly says that its sponsers will traget you...for spam related to the websites you visit...I brief tested this....used less than five minutes.....came here to this forum......an have since received 7 spams on internet security........also.....it strongly appears that <guardstar> if allowed will bypass proxies like proxmo and webwasher.....

that is not imo anon surfing.....the only thing its doing is keeping other snakes from making money off of you.....


Rarely....maybe never..have I disagreed with more experience "others" this time I simply must....the use of <guardstar> goes against the very things we are trying to prevent...tracking/profiling........by worse to knowingly give a snake my ip address...ouch!!

Yeah, snow. I'd have to toss my hat into the rink on this one too. I just got a bad feeling getting bombarded so heavily with those crappy popups on my work computer. I've been busy re-grouping after a total W2K reinstall yesterday, so I haven't checked it out yet with my home computer. And from what you've said, I doubt now that I will. This is an odd situation, to say the least; exactly what you've said. This just doesn't seem like the caliber of product to be endorsed here; it seems like the kind of product to be WARNED about here. Very odd indeed. Thanks for your post!

Hi Snowman,

As said in the same thread, if you want to use it AND not been tracked by the very site and other annoyances :
1. Use an anti-popups ( I run the Xenobar)
2. Don't accept cookies (local and third parties)
3. Use an up to date Hosts file or something else against
the ads.

When using it so, you get a pretty good anonymity without being tracked and without you IP revealed
