Default Ewido TDS3

I have and intend to keep TDS3 but I am also considering Ewido. How do you feel they compare. The strong points and weaknesses of each.

I don't know if this indicates anything but I have downloaded Ewido and so far fine. I tried to check what dll's are loaded with Process Explorer and it can't get into it. I guess the Ewido keeps PE from looking.

Cool Re: Ewido TDS3

Ewido version 3 plus and TDS3 is probably the best combination just edging out TDS3 and Boclean.

Ewido version 3 plus appears to be one of the better memory resident scanners that is available. It has yet to be put to the test by independent testers but Ewido appears to be very serious about building a top of the line scanner.

The main advantage of Ewido is the memory scanner, large database, generic emulation, and strong signatures.

The main advantage of TDS3 is all the different tools that can be used to detect trojans and heuristics (I believe Ewido will incorporate heuristics in version 3.1)

Right now, I think TDS-3 and Ewido are sort of running neck and neck. Ewido maybe the best "pure" scanner but TDS3 makes this up by using so many different ways to detect trojans.

TDS4 will more likely than not have just as strong scanning abilities that Ewido has now and I expect that Ewido will build many more "tools" into their suite after they finish building the scanner portion by including things like heuristics and other features.

I expect TDS4, Ewido, BoClean 5, and possibly Trojanhunter to each have their "FANS" claiming that they have the best scanner over the next year or two. I think all the scanners are improving their weaknesses and it might be hard to say which is the "best" in the near future.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.....I am waiting to see credible testing of all the Trojan scanners. Right now, the best testing that I have seen of Trojans is from Nautilus http://boardadmin.bo.funpic.de/viewf...c179805ff429ca I like reading what he has to say because it seperates marketing hype from actual results. Some people might be shocked to find that their favorite scanner is not as strong as they thought it was which is why right now I use two trojan scanners so that one makes up for the weakness of the other.

I will let you guess which two I use

Starrob,

Let me guess. Ewido and TDS3?

I use TrojanHunter & BOClean. To me, this is the best combination. This is only my opinion though, you understand?

Thank you for the replies. I downloaded Ewido last night but I don't know what version it is. I read in posts that with 3 you could tell which version you have. I also read that 3.1 was to come out this week. How can I tell what version I have?

Hi William,

When it comes to security software my motto is "It is not where you are but where you are going"

Here is something to read before choosing Anti-Trojan software:

http://boardadmin.bo.funpic.de/viewforum.php?f=4

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...5619~mode=flat

http://home.arcor.de/scheinsicherheit/rebasing.htm

http://home.arcor.de/scheinsicherheit/introduction.htm

Here is one on BoClean:

http://home.arcor.de/scheinsicherheit/boclean.htm

Here is one on KAV:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...erheit/kav.htm

Here is one on TDS3:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...erheit/tds.htm

Here is one for Trojanhunter:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...herheit/th.htm

Some of this information is dated BUT you will get a good idea of what questions to ask the developers of these products by reading some of that information whether or not a person agrees with the analysis given of the different products.

There is one particular product that I feel is moving rapidly to develop protection for future threats. I feel this way because I asked certain questions from this particular companies support and they give fairly clear answers and do not try to give confusing answers filled with a lot of mumbo-jumbo and vague promises that most end-users would not understand.

Ask your questions of all the companies support and you will find out which companies are mostly doing marketing hype and which are serious about building good products. Decide for yourself.

I am pretty sure I'm going to keep Ewido but before I pay for the plus I want it updated to 3 . I want to be sure there is no problems. I had Bo-clean 4.10 and it worked fine . When it was updated to 4.11 I had a lot of problems. I should have plenty of time.
