Because Symantec is the worst antivirus available. You should get another AV: like NOD32, Kaspersky, McAfee, etc. There are good AVs out there that are really good. Symantec is a ***********.

dear iwod, thats why people say you should do a full system scan regularly. sometimes On-Access scans misses out some bugs. checkout this page regarding Netsky.B infection. http://securityresponse.symantec.com...tsky.b@mm.html

Sorry but does this apply to every AV? So Even with what other called the best AV such as NOd32, KAV5, extendia AV or Mks_dir 2004 i would still be required to do a Full scan Regulaly?

Do you configure your on-access scan to scan every file? or just selective file types?

My brother is having problem with Symatec AV corp 9. It seems that the computer is having virus-like behaviour, but Symantec AV corp 9 doesn't detect any virus.

Trying booting into "Safe Mode" and rerunning a virus scan. As well install and run Spybot Search & Destroy. Install Spyware Guard and Spyware Blaster.

Let us know how you go...

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion . My brother tried ad-aware and spybot, and they detection nothing but spy cookies. He is going to install F-Secure. Hopefully, this heavy-duty tool will help.

dear iwod, my comment holds true for all AVs. it is necessary to do regual full system scans.

dear liang_mike, On-Access scan should for specific file extensions. you don't want to waste resources scanning MP3s or TXT files. F-Secure will certainly provide better protection than Symantec. but before installing an AV please make sure you uninstalled Symantec totally and your system is virus free. you can try those web scanners or stand-alone scanner from www.mwti.net for example.

One thing to remember about opinions, they are just opinions.

There are people that like to put doubt in other peoples minds.

Use what you want and have fun.

No sense getting upset over software.

Remember to use common sense and your antivirus will probably never alarm.

Sorry, that question on on-access scan was meant for iwod, not myself. However, I agree with you, and my on-access scans selective file extensions only.

sorry liang_mike, i saw you quote my post so i thought you directed your question at me.

dear Acadia, VB tests aren't everything but its also true that they aren't useless either. i agree NAV is good but somehow they failed to win hearts.
