Hello,

New tool FREE for private users.

Abtrusion Protector protects your computer by keeping track of all the executable files (applications, OCX controls, dynamic link libraries, drivers etc.) that are installed on your computer. Whenever the operating system tries to load a piece of software, Abtrusion Protector first verifies that the file is allowed to execute. If the file is not recognized or is not allowed to run, Abtrusion Protector prevents the operating system from loading it.

FYI : Does NOT prevent PCaudit.exe even when set on deny in the settings.

Jack - Thanks for the link. That's an interesting piece of software. It works on the same principle of a firewall it looks like. Instead of not allowing the outbound connection, it doesn't allow execution of a program unless it's "approved." Interesting.

Hi JacK!

I found this to be interesting and was looking forwards to trying it. Unfortunately, my OS is "out-of-date" by their standards. Oh well.

Abtrusion Protector™ Personal Edition

System requirements:

- Windows XP or Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0
- Windows Installer 2.0 or later
- TCP/IP
- On Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 6a and Internet Explorer 4.01 or later are also required. Internet Explorer 5.0 or later is recommended.
- About 10 MB of free disk space on your system drive (normally C:\). An additional of about 50 MB of free disk space for temporary files.
- At least 64 MB internal memory (RAM)

License Terms:
Abtrusion Protector™ Personal Edition is free for non-commercial, personal use on one workstation computer in a non-network environment. If the product is installed on a server or on a computer connected to a domain, a paid license key will be required.

Yes, it is but still some weaknesses : it can be cheated by maskerading and no uninstaller : you need to fiddle with the Registry.

SSM works partially on the same principle and some other apps too.
