Outgoing E-mail

    I've recently migrated from Norton AV Pro 2004 to NOD32.

    I use Outlook XP as an e-mail client (POP3 / SMTP).

    I know that IMON scans all of my incoming mail from my ISP's POP3 server.

    Do my outgoing e-mails also get scanned as with Norton AV?

    If not, can I assume that, if I did accidentally attach an infected file (e.g. a zip file) to the email, then AMON would detect it when it was attached to the e-mail, or before it was sent?

    NOD doesn't scan outgoing mail as it does incoming mail. However, the real time scanner should pick up any malware. If the malware is on your disk, it should be caught anyway.

    The beta due out soon may have options for scanning outgoing mail. Until the beta comes out, there is no way to know for sure.

    If your email program is set up properly, antivirus scanning is just an extra layer of security anyway.

    Incoming mail scanning is the most important.

    I'm sure AMON will catch any malware on the disk anyway.

    Since upgrading from (ZoneAlarm Pro + Norton AV) to (Outpost Pro + NOD32) I've noticed a huge increase in computer responsiveness, so I'm happy with both products. :)

    No antivirus I know of runs better than NOD. Enjoy! :D

    ronjor will this be a new version or an upgrade to Nod V2? I am due to update shortly and would wait if it will be a new version. :)

    It will be an upgrade. Blackspear is using a beta I believe and can probably tell you more about it. In fact, his sticky at the top of the forum page has some screenshots.
    Advanced heuristics and http scanning are two additions I know of.

    Indeed I am, and yes manOFpeace it will be an upgrade available to all Nod32 paid subscribers, so don't hold back in renewing, it's coming to a town near you shortly ;)

    I might be mistaken here, but NOD32 won't detect the infected file inside the zip file unless the zip file is opened. So it is possible to unknowingly send someone an infected zip file if you haven't opened it and scaned it before sending it. Isn't that correct? I always scan stuff before sending.

    Why would you send someone something that was sent to you without ever opening it? Wouldn't you at least want to make sure that they didn't send you the wrong thing by mistake?

    I see your point and agree with you. But there could be someone out there you might download a zip containing some program or whatever he/she thinks great and that his/her friends may like also, and send it off before checking out themselves. They would be unknowingly spreading a nasty. Chances are slim, but it could happen.
