How many passes are you using to erase? I suppose you shut down all other running programs when you erase?
The files are overwritten a certain number of times not actually erased. This makes them unreadable. The more passes the better.
Eraser can erase alternate data streams as well.

thanks, ron.ive tried in safe mode and it does seem to make abit of a difference .1 is quicker,35 takes awhile.
but;what id really like to know is,where are my deleted files.will there be more right at the start of the overwritting,or will there still be many files at the end.because,if there are many more at the beginning id use it more.as it is,as far as i know my most recently deleted files might be right at the end of the overwritting.do you know?

i just read through the FAQ,and i dont think it says exactly where old files are stored on the HD.but, ill start doing 1 pass at a time.i think i was mainly going for 35.also,i think i need to get PGP,which ive never really considered before afew days ago, because theres nothing important on HD(credit card no. etc.),plus i looked at it once and it seemed far to complicated.is it difficult or was i in the wrong place?it was awhile ago so it may make alittle more sense now.

PGP could be a whole new thread. The problem with PGP is most everyday people don't use it. It does take a little study but, is a great program.
