Security and AOL? those words do not belong anywhere near each other from AOL's past performances

This thread may belong in "Software and Services".......

I was rather surprised to see this glowing review for AOL 8.0 in Business Week magazine:

http://tinyclick.com/?OSENSK

IMHO, AOL will never be for anybody serious about the Internet to consider as long as they use that silly proprietary mail system, with horrible mail organizational abilities.

Just my three pesos.

will if you you look at 8.0 its minly made for newbys its not meant for security experts but more for ease and conviniance.

you have to remember us newbys far out number you experts lol so for newbys aol 8.0 is perfect.

for those that know the real deal ie security gurues something else might be more alpropite lol.

I saw a news announcement on the Tele today that by popular demand they would not longer have popup ads on AOL V8.0.

Blaze,

I see what you are saying except that I think newbies already have "easy email" by way of web-based email if that's how they want it. I think if AOL is going to charge what they do for use of their service they can at least join the 21st century when it comes to email delivery. Making it pop compatible would not be difficult - it's the proprietary system they want to keep in place so they can manipulate it with their "approved spam" which you KNOW is going on.

Hope you're doing okay. Take it easy, Blaze.

When I first went online, I used AOL but not for long. At the time you could get free internet access if you wanted to put up with spam and popups. I dumped them after about 4 months of being online. That was 5 years ago and I STILL get their stupid disks in the mail as well as come back letters. They never give up, and I am afraid they will never change their tactics.
