hi ejbjpb,

Click Start > Run > Services.msc > OK
In the services window find Network Security Service.
Rightclick and stop it. Put the Startup type to disabled under Properties > General tab

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3xq.dat
qcwln.dll

Then download http://www.wilderssecurity.com/attac...hmentid=137634 and rename it to cwsuninst.reg
Doubleclick it and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Let me know if you were using a special hosts file, SpybotS&D, AdShield or if you have problems opening the Control Panel.

Pieter

Unhappy Re: res://*randomDLL* hijacking

peiter, control panel didn't have any problems... i don't know what a special hosts file is, but i don't think i was using one... and spybot S & D was one of the programs i used, though adsheild was/is not.

sorry for the long wait, i was out getting food for the longest!

ok now there's a bigger problem... at the startup it gives me like an error message for every thing that .... starts up when windows does....

the kind that says send error report, or not....

and when i try to open anything it would do the same... need help

Can you click on Details and see what module is failing?
There is probably a constant factor in there.
If all else fails use System Restore and go back to a Restore Point (best would be even before the hijack, but at the moment anything will do I think)

Pieter

ok pieter, this is really freaky, i had switched to safe mode again, to be able to talk to you, then i had to switch back to normal to get the info for you... well the problem is fixed, and everything seems to be running back to normal. at least for now.

No problem.

This one seems to be persistent and is known to cause errors.

O18 - Filter hijack: application/octet-stream - {6585E5B4-4D2A-4A1D-A219-4102C64BA999} - C:\WINDOWS\chp.dll

Big Grin Re: res://*randomDLL* hijacking

yeah, i had deleted it previously, and for a while it wasn't showing up, i'll see what another barrages against it'll do :-)

also, i know this is off topic, but i'd rather not take up too much forum space....

i'm having problems with spywareblaster... i can download it just fine, and the installation seems to be perfect... just that it says the executable is corrupted when i try and run it.... any thoughts?

another edit... am i supposed to get a error message saying HTG can not connect to www.sitename.com because i'm either not connect or the server is down.... because it's like buggy? or is the server down 4 real?
