Default Downloader.Istbar.3.BU

AVG detected Downloader.Istbar.3.BU but could not clean it. Ran Ad-Aware, but locked up. Ad-Aware detected the trojan. Attached is the HJT.

Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Re: Downloader.Istbar.3.BU

Before you start, please unzip HijackThis to it's own folder somewhere.
The program will make backups in the folder it's run from.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder and are an annoyance on the desktop.

Run HijackThis again, push Scan and place a check mark next to the following items using your mouse.
Next, close all browser Windows, and push the 'Fix checked' button in HijackThis

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://server224.smartbotpro.net/7search/?new-hkcu
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.couldnotfind.com/search_...count_id=145872

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties)
Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box and then press OK

Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\WINNT\Temp\ folder

Set your Explorer up using the info in this link so that hidden and System files are visible
Also Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" box

Reboot to SAFE mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode

Delete the following files:
C:\WINNT\sysupd.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\lflmb10n.exe

Delete the following folder(s) completely
C:\Program Files\Lycos\Sidesearch\
C:\Program Files\ISTbar\

Reboot to normal mode

Download Spybot - Search and Destroy
After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and after SpyBotSD has completed it's scan push the 'Fix checked' button for all that it has automatically selected.

Default Re: Downloader.Istbar.3.BU

Ran HJT and fixed indicated items. Ran in Safe Mode and searched for indicated files - found neither. Tried to eliminate XXXToolbar through Add/Remove, but no go. Ran Ad-Aware again and this time it didn't lock up. Removed all items found in Ad-Aware, including several istbar. Went to Add/Remove and found XXXToolbar gone. Ran AVG and found istbar still there. Following is new HJT:

Default Re: Downloader.Istbar.3.BU

It would be best if you could tell me where AVG found it.

The most likely scenario is that it's part of a system restore set.
If that is the case then you can flush your restore points by turning SR off and rebooting - then turn it back on to create a new restore point.
See this for how to do it - http://www.trendmicro.com/en/securit...n_me_clean.htm

Did u also run SpyBotSD ? I recommend having both.
