My husband downloaded a dialer and it ate up my system. I've been offline and struggling (with my limited knowledge of this thing) since the 12th. But, I'm back now, so beware!

Not wishing to sound cruel, but I hope the people who write and distribrute these filthy dialers will haemhorrage while they're having lunch, develop gangrene which will quickly go cancerous, commit serious offenses under the influence of nightmarish pain and die in *** chambers, only to be resurrected as zombies, and be slaughtered in abject and everlasting agony by Buffy, the vampire slayer. Failing that, I would hope they never get whatever's on their Christmas list. If that doesn't work, may they tread in dog poo and recognise it as family.

    Just my $.02

lol dialers are scams and if your useing a dialer its either for illigal content or you got a forced dialer that ataches itself to your computer and usealy hides 5 spots in your pc

    1 start menu
    2program files
    3 in my docuements
4under settings control panel on the modem icon you might see a dialer hot sex ect ect
    5 desktop

this is do to your internet setings and as for the dialer that killed your pc im very familiar with that one i been spam with it and theres a reason why hackers made it that way

your husband ran into matiral he should had not been looking at probly by acident a fake referal or redirected

if you look for the newby survival guide in this forum it explaines what your internet settings should be

just to make sure that this is the right hack did the dialer add 3 html files on your desk top as will and sometimes a zip file with out your permistion just poof it appeared your internet line got disconected a dialer appeard as well and your browser killed

    page can not display

on reboot your computer is almost renderd useless trying to reconect to the net

    hard drive crashs

then soon after your computer is perty much dead

if thats the one then your going to need a major reformat as well as clean install
and a viruse program like nortion with updated definitions to make sure its clean

reinstaling sometimes dont work its still in your computer thats why a major reformat might be the case

im a major porn surfer and threw my experince i come across fake links and referals that taken me to horriable places wher i wish i could bleach my eyes out

these bastards put there links up like collge co eds naked or collge cheer leaders gone bad ect ect

and when you click onn it you get takenn to horriable porn sites that are illigal and dowen right sick

some porn web master sick mofo
or some evill hacker sending you to a kill your computer web site

you need to secure your computer espechialy with your husband looking at adult matirial he will constantly run in to these sites.

dialers are scams thqat charge any where from 1.00 a minute to $50.00 dollars a minute to stare at a web site with normal if any content at all

that shows up on your phone bill

Thanks for sharing. I don't mind his voyeristic ways (as long as it doesn't interfere with our quality time), I just would like him to be more carefull with what he chooses. I know you can't be sure what you'll get, where, but I've noticed there is usually trouble of some computer sort, when he chooses titles with certain key words like: young, teen and college.
I have been to the newby survival guide, and I adjusted mt settings. However, if he chooses to download these things, I can't stop him.
I must say this was an intensive learning opportunity for me. I had to investigate my computers nooks and crannies to fix her. I discovered fdisk and format on my startup disk. After trial and error, I think I finally got it right. The biggest problem was tht all my files were corrupted, causing me to loose my drivers and all of the original stuff that was loaded on this old box four years ago. I'm sort of shut-in, so it was a real pain getting a driver for my modem.
Speaking of which, my win98 SE disk provided generic drivers for most of my hardware, but the disk kept 'falling asleep' during installation. I had to extract stuff afterwards and it still isn't acting right. Any advice?
I did get a copy of Ontrack's System Suite 4.0, it is really nice. What else do I need to prevent outside attack? I can't stop the old man (he pays for the AOL).
I'm thinking of starting a porn site of my own as revenge for the days and nights I had to spend toiling over this thing to fix his boo-boo, but that's what I'm here for I guess.
    Thanks again!

System suite has a firewall and anti-virus. There is so much software available to stop this and that, worms and weasles. I can't figure out whether to get insecticide or a big trap (maybe some kerosine and matches). When this all started, I had Ad-aware, pc scanner, Norton Av 2002.
That's another thing, PC scanner told me that port 1025 was open. What does that mean exactly? Also, about ten of my IRQ's say they are being used by an unknown device. What does that mean? I need an end all glossary of terms and programs and all that computer stuff. I want to learn, but I get sidetracked so easily. o_O :p  Thanks for any help I can get with any of this or previous query.

    Hi crkit1,

About firewalls, I suggest you to ask questions at our firewalls-section.
I know that Root also has SystemSuite 4.0 on his system (I myself have only the previous version 3.0), and he really knows a lot about firewalls.

    About that port:
1025: BLACKJACK - network blackjack, LISTEN - listen
I also suggest to ask about that one at the firewall section.

More in general (and please be assured that I really don't want to sound rude !): maybe the two of you have to have a little talk... But that's of course up to you.

You might for example consider to install the HOSTS file (free) from Steve Martin, maybe also with the separate file for blocking porno sites.

In case you are using Internet Explorer, I would advice you to install IE-SPYAD (free) from Eric Howes, and to follow his advice about how to set up your Internet Zone of IE.

And I also would advice you to install a good Anti-Trojan program.

But most of all (and again: I don't want to sound rude):
try to talk to your friend/husband.

FAN...I'm on my way to check it all out. That little talk would result in smashed pc. Or maybe no internet. It is a classic tale of woe and ecstacy(the original kind!). But, if I relax a little everything will work out. Thanks for your help. I want tds, but alas, no credit card. :-*thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!

crkit1, come talk with me in the firewall forum if you don't mind. I dont want to get off topic here.
We can talk about some free protection, its out there.
SystemSuites firewall is not the best, but the AV is pretty good. It actually catches everything I throw at it. :)

    Hi crkit1,

I'm really very sorry to hear that about smashing the PC.
    It's a sad situation.

In that case using the HOSTS file with adding that very long list of porno sites might NOT be the right choice, cause it blocks a lot of those sites....

And even the use of IE-SPYAD with the right settings for your Internet-zone in Internet Explorer as described on that site, might not be the right choice....

The use of an Anti-Trojan program, if you can afford it, might be better.
And also the use of SpyBot Search & Destroy might be a good choice.

If I understood you right, you were using NAV and are now using the Anti-Virus program that is build in SystemSuite 4.0 (that AV is PC-Cillin 2000).
If your yearly subscription of NAV is still OK, you might consider the use of both them. What I mean by this, is that you use the AV of SystemSuite running resident (that means it is running all the time), and that you use NAV for second opinion; in that case you have to stop the AV of SystemSuite temporarily and run the NAV on-demand (that means: you start NAV yourself). Don't forget, after NAV has done its job, to re-enable the AV of SystemSuite.
One big warning: never run two AV's at the same time !!!

Contrary to what you're hearing here, use of both S.Martins hosts' file, IE_SPYAD (and even AdShield) are all perfectly compatible with adult sites - to an extent.

All depends on which ones you pick (al4a.com comes to mind). While some of the pages will be blocked, there are such an incredible amount of pages to pick from that the ones that DO get blocked are only a minor annoyance, not a major stumbling block (the ones that DO get blocked NEED to be blocked for one reason or another).

    Have fun!

FanJ- Everything I had before my hacking job is gone. My genius brother bought sys. suite for me and I reinstalled 98SE.
Read root's firewall stuff. That 'Howstuffworks' site is great! That is just what the doctor ordered.
Also, went back and set up protocol bindings again and internet settings etc.
I thank you for watching the thread, you and the other folks are always a big help to me, even when I am just cruising the forums. Thanks. :D

    Fun1,

    You might be right.
I do use Steve Martin's HOSTS file and IE-SPYAD from Eric Howes, but I have no experience in visiting porn-sites, and I'm not planning to get that experience.
My point was that installing those app's could get crkit1 in more trouble at home, and I wanted to avoid that.

 Well, I got the bill! $162.00 for 31 minutes (at $4.99 per+tax) connected to live.sex...through some dialer company which the biller won't disclose. The billing company is Alyon Technologies. I emailed them and told them what happened. I also told them that there was no way that 31 minutes had elapsed before I ripped the phone line out of my computer.
They emailed me back and were very nasty. They said that their products don't carry viruses or worms and that they could prove not only connection, but also activity for 31 minutes. Then they delineated the proceedure for dispute, part of which was to check my phone bill for a call to New Jersey on the date in question.
So, I called my long distance carrier. Amazingly, there is no such call on my bill. So I emailed them back, gave them a confirmation number from the phone company and threatened to contact an attorney.
Then they emailed that their dialing product (now it's their dialer) automatically disconnects at 31 minutes and I had better be careful at whom I hurl accusations. They gave me a long lecture about parental controls and about their respectability etc. they used very poor grammar, horrible spelling and no tact or good business sense at all.
That's when I lost it. I scathed their butts! I really feel bad for the poor shlubb who opened that piece of mail.
Anyway, they want me to send an affidavit from their site, along with the original phone bill (from which I plan to cut out the codes for my account) and they will adjust my bill.
I don't want it adjusted. I want it gone! Any advice?

Sure..did they bill you through your local telephone company or was it a seperate billing direct from them.

If it is the latter..dump it and forget it.

Second..talk to your local telephone company and ask them about a block on your phone for all those KNOWN area code for these kind of scams and dialers...not only the 900 numbers ( if you are in the states) but all the rest of them.

If they are block...the dialer will not work.

Allow me for this one time
    the conversation says:
Ohh you're a model? Well i'm an athlete and i am in the race cars at the circuit; which is your sign?
(hope the image comes through this time without crashing another time my system after the submit button.
OK, crashed again sending an 79kb gif, had to reboot completely so twice is enough for me here.
The image goes on with you seeing an old lady in her bikinis, a cigaret halfway her mouth and her bunny slippers on and the bald headed old man in his underpants both on their computers and both rather deformed by age. I don't remember the link but you might find it back googling for "chat humor" and neatly on my system)
    Found it on another place:
    http://humor.ozu.es/data/Fotos/Chat.gif

You will understand i don't visit chatboxes for waste of time etc. Rather a forum with content, people helping each other in stead of fooling and mounting up phonebills.

    Nice comic :-D

But one little correction; it says "I am an athlete and I participate in the boat races."

Like those row boats with a team on 'em ;-)

Thanks Detox for the correction; indeed, i had it from another site time ago and did not look anymore at the text in this one which i tried to get inside the message here.
In fact it's very often this way, at least people playing roles they want other people to think they are.

Alyon billed me, not phone company. BUT, they used my son's phone number to bill in his name and I don't want this to end up as a mark against his credit.

I have been meaning to have all those numbers blocked, sidetracked by this problem and forgot to tell phone company to do it. Will do though, thanks for caring. :)

lol what a mess i warnd you about dialer and on your sons bill shame on you.

if it been your phone it be ok then you can say the heck with it but since it your son bill then they got you by the balls.

thers literly thousands of really free porn sites useing a dialer is no excuse.

as some one with a porn fetish for porn i know in all this time not to use a dialer is says every time in big bold letters how much it cost per minute there is no excuse you play you pay.

thers only one trojan dialer out there and that one is from mexico the reason i know you didnt get that one is cause you bill was only a hundred something and not over a 1000 dollars.

i know almost every dialer out ther that has tryed to scam me.

personal remarks deleted from this post - please refrain from those; not tollerated - Forum Admin

I miss the exact details how it worked, but a few years ago there was lot of discussion with people not knowing they were disconnected from their normal dailer and unknowingly connected to those expensive dialers (i wonder if that is possible if not first such a switch software should be (installed?) on your shystem) and after when discovered and all the complaints it seems to be forbidden and maybe not be done in so many cases anymore (?)...
I don't think with the cable/DSL connections it would be possible at all or am i missing the technologic developments again?
I even don't remember if it happened while surfing to those sites or also from suspicious porn spam ..
The people thought after having left the site or not having visited it at all they were no longer paying the expensive connection if they knew anyway they were switched, but all the time they were on the expensive one till disconnected.
    Whole dramas!
In the Netherlands the switchpoint itself is from the national phone company, but such sites can create their own dialers with their own price tags on it, so who is to blame in such cases? Sooooo lots of discussions i don't hear since.
