I am new to PG and have just started configuring it. Could someone please tell me if this is properly configured. I have other application that I have not yet added to the list, that are not protected. If there are others that need to be added please tell me what kinds of application need protection. Thanks in advance.
Hi n8chavez. Just add any programs that are in anyway security/or could be breached related. I don't see SpywareBlaster/SpywareGuard listed. Do you have those. Look thru all of your Program Files listings, see what you have and add the .exe's of any you *think* need protecting. Also I don't see Outlook/Outlook Express, unless I am going blind. and add this one even though I see Opera is your browser. c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe and this also from Kerio: c:\program files\kerio\personal firewall\pfwadmin.exe [that is your administrator rights for the program to change things in Kerio, you don't want anyone accessing that part of it.] and these for Spybot S&D: 033 - c:\program files\spybot - search & destroy\blindman.exe 034 - c:\program files\spybot - search & destroy\update.exe just to be on the safe side you may notice I don't have TeaTimer.exe on my list in SSD, that's because I don't run it. and finally these: 045 - c:\program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe 046 - c:\program files\windows media player\wmplayer.exe also just to be on the safe side, as some vulnerabilities exist in WMP. Attached my lists for comparison, remembering of course I may have programs you do not, vice versa. Some of the ones I have may/may not be necessary, but I don't care, I just added to be on the safe side. Cheers, TAS
Thanks very much much Tassie_Devils. I looked at you attached file and made sure my configuration mirrored it as much as possible. I did have one other question. I have XP SP1a and I have access to outlook express and WMP 'deactivated.' Should I enable access to them and then add them to my protection list?
If you say you have those proggies 'deactivated' and the only way to get them listed is to 'reactivate' then I would probably say no, don't bother. As long as you are *sure* nothing can get to them. I mean I have never heard of 'deactivating' Outlook Express before [learn something every day]. I also have WMP "crippled" so much that you actually have to open the program and then go File/Open thru menu, double clicking on a simple mp3, etc. will not do it. Too cautious? Nah!!! Not me LOL. However, what can it hurt? Up to you mate. Cheers, TAS
Tassie, thanks for your advices however you did not say which option to choose (Allow, Blocked Flags and Option) for the apps you mention. Personally I always confused concerning the Allowed Privileges. BTW what about a sticky thread with all the apps and their rules for our beloved community? Cheers PS: we can save the protection list in TXT format, how to we import it afterwards?
Hi, A884126 You can not import the text. You have to backup pguard.dat and pghash.dat, to some where of your choice. I put mine on a floppy. To restore them for any reason, you have to go to safe mode. To back them up here is quick guide by Pilli:- #2 Take Care, TheQuest
