That's very cool from its abstract :)

I wonder what it would take to implement. Maybe I'll know after reading the entire paper ;)

That's one advantage to running an exit node. It becomes much harder to profile you based on your traffic when they can't be certain which traffic is yours.

Please explain how that would work. I don't see any advantage running an exit node, because you might get raided for someone else's kiddie porn!

What if you can prove that porn isn't yours? Now how do they know who did the rest? Just blame the paedo.

  6. Just my suggestions, i read Tor number of users is increasingly day by day in the last period (after the datagate, the newspaper articles about it,S.road, etc etc), i think Tor has now 10x users than he had last year and this number is likely to increas again, or i am wrong?

More users = More safety right? Because it will be more diffcult to controll all the 3 nodes by the same agency i think.

Second thought, can they increase the number of nodes from 3 to 5?? This way the probability to be controlled by the same adversary would be even more remote, am i right?

Those are just 2 very simple suggestions that in my opinion could increase Tor safety dramatically, what do you think?

I just read the one comment from the first link in message #1, and it contained the following:

Most of the new users are bots in the Mevade botnet ;)

No. Tor clients aren't part of circuits for other chients. Only relays are used for that. Read the documentation at the Tor Project website.

It's a tradeoff. Again read the documentation at the Tor Project website, or check out <-http://tor.stackexchange.com->. That question has been asked and answered.

    Check out <-http://tor.stackexchange.com-> :)

I'd guess the profile is quite simple :
"TOR exit-node operator" - High Interest target .
They'll need to know if they can trust you with their spooks communications
or if you are a sniffer .

Read the Tor Project documentation before deciding to run an exit node.

    Just saying ...

Once the traffic leaves your PC, it all looks the same. There's no reliable way that they can tell if that traffic was relayed through Tor or originated from your PC. Tor is legal in this country, regardless of whether they like it or not. The fact that mine is a listed exit, not a hidden bridge or service, provides an amount of plausible deniability. If I was collecting kiddie porn, I definitely wouldn't be running a relay openly. Mine is not a high capacity exit which also makes it less suitable for downloading large videos. The risk can also be minimized by running a reduced exit policy .
They could come in and harass me if they chose to, but there's nothing they could charge me with that would stick, not when they know full well that the traffic could just as easily come through Tor. I understand that there's a certain amount of risk in running an exit. I've taken steps to reduce my legal risks by limiting the types of traffic I allow. The bulk of the remaining risk is harassment and intimidation. I run an exit node because I believe that global surveillance is wrong and because people have a right to not have their every move monitored. It's sad that people no longer value their freedom enough to protect it and fight for it, especially when they can do it legally. There's more people using Tor now than ever before, people who value their privacy. There's also less than 5000 Tor relays and less than 1000 exit nodes total on the planet, using their resources and taking the risks to provide that privacy. Some things are worth risking harassment. It's just sad that more people don't act on their beliefs.

  12. Thank you for the answer Mir i will inform myself better. However you are right about the Mevade botnet but trust me, after the last gates a lot of national tv, newspapers, blog of MANY countries outside the USA started to talk about Tor and the number of real users which discovered Tor and started to use it is really increased a lot and thats good i guess
