Just released by Stardock some weeks ago.

For those that absolutely hate (even if they don't know why, lol) the Modern UI, I think ModernMix could complement Start8 very well. Seems to keep some of the benefits of WinRT...

    http://www.stardock.com/products/modernmix/

    Features:

    Run modern apps in windows

ModernMix enables you to run multiple Modern apps in individual separate windows on the desktop as well as launch them from the desktop.

    Apply custom settings

Modern app window sizes are remembered the next time you launch them.

Pin modern apps to the taskbar

Active Modern apps will also appear on your taskbar where they can be pinned for quick access later. Also create desktop shortcuts for Modern apps.

Bring back the familiar Windows look

Standard Windows 8 title bar is enabled for Modern apps.

Explicitly close Modern apps by clicking its close button.

    Re: ModernMix

    Version 1.05 changelog:

    - Background sound support for apps that are not the active window
    - App settings page now lists all modern apps, and has more right click - options. Double clicking apps in the list will also open the right click menu
    - New right click option to always force full screen
    - Assorted improvements and bug fixes

This program is great. I didn't really hate the full screen apps but this makes them much easier to work with. Combined with Start8 and Decor8 it makes Windows 8 a pleasant experience, at least in my opinion.

If Microsoft gave thought to designing a usable Windows 8 interface, none of these workarounds would even be necessary. That's why I'm left cold - and I'm not the only one - to the Modern User Interface. :thumbd:

For me the entire thing is a big fail and I have no intention of upgrading to Windows 8 just to view the entire stupid tiles experience. I don't want to have to relearn how to use Windows and at my age, this old dog is not interested in learning new tricks.

Metro apps are meant to be use on touchscreen mobile devices anyway.

for a desktop machine, i'd rather use an application that was made for the desktop rather than use a Metro version.

i uninstalled all the Metro apps.
i see no use for them on a desktop computer.

nobody is forced to use Metro or the Metro apps if one doesn't like them.

The tech world shouldn't revolve around this mentality.

Otherwise, we would never see any progress again.

    You better adapt. lol

Resistance to change has been around since the dawn of time... it's not necessarily a bad thing. Then again, as we all know, change is inevitable... :)

Windows 8 is not about any kind of progress. It´s just a bad design.

I have Start8, Modern Mix and Décor 8 from Stardock - plus Rainmeter and I can virtually do what I wish wish my Desktop and Startscreen. I really like what I now have and opposed to Windows 7 before upgrade. Much easier to control and more personal.

Boot time and Shut down are much faster with Windows 8. Below is how my pc opens initially:

I disagree, I think Windows 8 brings on a dramatic progress. And design can always be improved, but it's already very cool IMO.

Thanks - I'm happy with it. Each person has preferences and my current setup with Windows 8 satisfies me. People who don't like Windows 8 should stick with Windows 7. It's all a matter of choice. I initially went with Windows 8 because of the upgrade from Windows 7 for $39.99. I dual booted both for a while and made the decision my choice was Windows 8. For me Windows 8 is exactly what I had wished for (with my modifications of course).

Same here. With these enhancements I like 8 better than I did 7. I remember a lot of user protest when Windows 95 came out also. They took Program Manager away! Nooooo.......... :D

Thanks for the tips guys. I simply couldn't get myself to use metro. I really do like StarDock and MetroMix.
