Default Houston, We have a problem.

Hey guys. Thank God I found your site. I don't know how much longer I could deal with this problem. First, the amount of ridiculous pop-ups is herrendous. Second, my homepage is changed, then all these different toolbars install themselves in Explorer, then all these annoying little programs install themselves, then I notice some entries into "My Favorites" that all the sudden appeared and I know for sure I didn't save them to "My Favorites", and so on and so on...

So, this is my problem.

I ran AdAware, then ran HJT. Here are my results:

Default Re: Houston, We have a problem.

Hello Kyle,

Welcome to Wilders !

No doubt you have lots of issues. Your machine have addware, foistware, worm, torzan and what not..

First Your winsock has to be repaired. So, Download, unzip and run LSPFix.exe from here and remove inetadpt.dll from your winsock layers. In order to do this, click the I know what I'm doing checkbox and check all instances of inetadpt.dll (and nothing else). Then move all checked files to the Remove pane and click Finish.

Now Go here and download the CWShredder. Now double click on the installed icon and on click Fix button to Fix the coolwebsearch variants. After cleaning a CWS infection check your 'Favorites' folder for added porn links*** and if found delete it.

Restart your machine.

Now, you need to re-run the adware again. Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program, you NEED to FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.

Now do the following:

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweak > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweak > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives... It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Right-click in that pane and choose "select all" Now press "Next" again. It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot. That ought to get rid of most of your spyware.

Restart your machine.

Now, Go here and do an online virus scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Be sure and put a check in the box by Auto Clean before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

When you've done all that, restart your computer, re-run Hijack This, and show us a fresh log.

There will be more to do!

With Thanks !
Newkid !

Default Re: Houston, We have a problem.

Hey guys. Alrite, so far I did everything you said up until the last part where I have to do the online virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ When I get to the site, I click the link to run the scan and a separate Internet Explorer window pops up, stays blank, and all the sudden I get the little Microsoft Windows box that says: "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I tried at least 8 times to do this. I restarted the pc and everything and tried again, and still, the same thing happened.

But I did run another HJT log and here are the results:

Then scan your system with AdAware as described here:

And give that online scan another try.

When you are done, run HijackThis again and post the new log, so we can see if it all worked out as planned.

Hello Kyle,

You had done a good work but few of the baddie still showing in your log.

Close down all the browser windows and have hijackthis fix the following entries :

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - C:\Program Files\TV Media\TvmBho.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [slmss] C:\Program Files\Common Files\slmss\slmss.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tiicdxxa] C:\WINNT\system32\tiicdxxa.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

The entry in blue color is optional to remove. This is a resource hog which isn't necessary for the operation of your system.

Reboot your machine and boot into safe mode by tapping F8 key(8-9 times) at bootup.

This may happen that file is hidden so first unhide the files using following instructions...
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...&osv=&osv_lvl=

Search and If present, delete all the following file(s) anf folder(s) :

C:\Program Files\Common Files\slmss <----Entire folder
C:\Program Files\TV Media <----Entire folder
C:\WINNT\system32\tiicdxxa.exe

Also in the safe mode, Please try run the Trend micro online scan ? If you still face the same problem then try to scan your machine here as well.

http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm

When you've done all that, Empty your recycle bin ; restart your computer, re-run Hijack This, and show us a fresh log with scan results.

With Thanks !

Hey guys. Back again. I ran HJT and fixed the entries you told me to. Though, I couldn't find:
Quote:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tiicdxxa] C:\WINNT\system32\tiicdxxa.exe
Tried to run the http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ scan in Safe Mode, but internet explorer couldn't find server. I don't know if I could connect to the net in Safe Mode. I always thought it was disabled in that mode. But anyway, I rebooted to normal mode, tried to run the scan, and got the same result: Mi
Quote:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
So then, I went ahead and did the scan at the www.pandasoftware.com site and it detected and disinfected viruses. I saved the log from that scan if you need to see it. Just tell me to post it in the next post.

Kyle,

Bring up TaskManager(Press Ctrl+Alt+Del) and Endtask the process :
evmgmtd

Then delete the file: C:\WINNT\system32\evmgmtd.exe

Then have HijackThis Fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [evmgmtd] C:\WINNT\system32\evmgmtd.exe

Reboot your machine and post fresh log.

With Thanks !

Also, just to let you know. For the last couple days, I've had this Internet Explorer window pop up. Not sure what its about. It'll pop-up whenever it wants to, usually when there are no Internet Explorer windows open. The title bar is: 'http:/69.20.62.53/yyy3.html'. It's always the same window. Then down on the taskbar icon for the window, it will say: 'Loading...'. Not sure what this is. Just figured I'd let you know.

Thanks.

Those can all go.

Important: stay off the net until all files are deleted (after the second reboot)

Open VX2Finder it and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.

Then select the *Delete these files* button.
You will be left with notice about one to be deleted on reboot.
It will ask to reboot on deletion of the last file (do that)

After that last file is gone go to
Start > run > type regedit enter and Navigate to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\GuardianWSYRH

(Note : the five letters in caps at the end may have changed [WSYRH] but it will still start with Guardian)

Right click on the Guardian????? key and select delete.
Close Regedit.
Reboot.

Open VX2Finder again and select:
User Agent$ > yes to confirm delete.
and then
Restore Policy

Exit and reboot.

Run Vx2Finder once more and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.
Post it here with a fresh HijackThis log please.

I didn't read the last post until it was too late. I was surfing the internet for a bit and I noticed another annoying program installed itself in my pc. Sorry about that. Quick question for you guys, What program do you recommend that will keep all of this crap off of my computer. I notice it just keeps re-installing itself. Is there a special program out there specifically designed to protect my pc from annoying programs like these?

Thanks for the help guys.

Hi kco919@msn.com,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = www.zestyfind.com/

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Remndr] "C:\Program Files\CasinoOnline\CsRemnd.exe"

O4 - Startup: Virtual Bouncer.lnk = C:\Program Files\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe

Then reboot and delete:
C:\Program Files\CasinoOnline <= entire folder
C:\Program Files\VBouncer <= entire folder

Then repeat this part:
Important: stay off the net until all files are deleted (after the second reboot)

Open VX2Finder it and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.

Then select the *Delete these files* button.
You will be left with notice about one to be deleted on reboot.
It will ask to reboot on deletion of the last file (do that)

After that last file is gone go to
Start > run > type regedit enter and Navigate to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\GuardianALTPJ

(Note : the five letters in caps at the end may have changed [ALTPJ] but it will still start with Guardian)

Regards,

Pieter

Hey guys,

I did all you said to do right up to the part at the end where you said:
Quote:
Open VX2Finder again and select:
User Agent$ > yes to confirm delete.
and then
Restore Policy

When it came to that part, VX2 did not give me the option to click "User Agent". So I clicked "Click to find VX2.BetterInternet" and still, it did not let me click "User Agent". Not sure what this means. Just to let you know. Otherwise, all went well. Here are the logs:

Hey guys,

The last log showed that there was nothing in the system. I stayed off the net until I could get a chance to look at the Wilders link you sent me in the last post and I finally got around to take a look.

I'm still having little problems though. The last couple times I ran Ad-Aware, it finds a CoolWebSearch. Then I proceed to run CWShredder, it removes the "SearchX.exe" and all is well. But literally, within minutes, it's back again. and I'll run CWShredder again, and it removes it again. Somehow, it's still there, even when it's not in plain view. The pop-ups really aren't bad, I think I had only one since last post, but it still changes my homepage. Here's a log for you to check out:

I tried removing (fixing) the R#'s in the log last again, and then go into the registry and delete the one's I'm supposed to, but they reappear. Weird... Any help you guys could give is appreciated.

Thanks again.
-Kyle

P.S. Also, when I try to install Javacool's SpywareBlaster, and then run it, it gives me a Windows gray notification box saying "This program has been damaged possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it." So I tried reinstalling it and it still gave me the same message. Then I rebooted, uninstalled the program, then tried to install it again, and still received the same message. Very confused...

Thanks.

Hello Kyle,

Can you please download :

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe

Doubleclick it and install in folder of choice but on the root drive, most likely C:\

1.Run start.bat and press option 1. A search will start, let it finish. A file named output.txt will be created in newly made folder.

Now, copy the contents of output.txt and paste them in a reply to be checked.

With Thanks !
Newkid !

Hey guys, it's been awhile. I've been real busy lately and didn't have much time to sit at my pc.

Well, this is a breakdown of what went on. I clicked the link you gave me in the last post>> http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe. but the page could not be found. So i went to this page>> http://zerosrealm.com/index.php?page=dllfix and installed the program. I ran the program and here are the results:

-- Scan 1 --------
about:Buster Version 1.30
Error Removing! : C:\WINNT\system32\gpn.dll
Attempted Clean Of Temp folder.
Pages Reset... Done!

-- Scan 2 --------
about:Buster Version 1.30
Removed! : C:\WINNT\system32\gpn.dll
Attempted Clean Of Temp folder.
Pages Reset... Done!

Also, I ran HJT and here's the results:
