Default Naviscope 8.70

I've seen this program mentioned in some threads and am wondering exactly what it does. Is it a proxy program? Is it comparable to Proxo and/or JAP? How does it compare? Also, I am (thick headed ) still uncertain as to the differences between Proxo and JAP. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Still looking for help!! I know Prince_Serendip uses Naviscope and I'm sure others do also. I'd appreciate any insight.

Still confused

Nope Naviscope isn't a proxy and I would use it if it were still going to be developed but since development stopped along time ago, I was not interested. Well yes I did try it out and it is a big shame that development was discontinued.
I use JAP and love it so far...

Thanks for your input. Does JAP require Java? Have you ever tried Proxo?

I use Naviscope 8.70 and i prefer it to Proxomitron or WebWasher, and YES it is a proxy.
Easy to set up and work with. The only one i need because of other protection tools i use, one of which is Spyblocker.
Works great with a pacfile. Unlike the other 2 which can slow down things, i find Naviscope actually speeds things up.
When it was found firewalls could not defend themselves against PC AUDIT 3.0.0.3, i was shielded with Naviscope, so yes i'm a big fan of it.
Jap is an anomyser.

Should you want to set it up with a pacfile : http://pages.infinit.net/carbo1/proxysetupwithpacfie.html
Or just with IE : http://pages.infinit.net/carbo1/setiewithnaviscope.html

In both cases, you can easily link Jap by checking box use a proxy and use Jap" listening port ( 4001 )

Proxomitron is probably the best of all proxies, but it requires a steep learning curve.

Thanks MTM. I'm not familiar with pacfiles, so I'll read up on them. As long as Naviscope works well with Opera (6.05) I'll be fine. I'll d/l it and give it a try.

I don't use OPERA, but don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with it. Just remember to set proxy port in your browser the same as you set in Naviscope.

I doo agree with Controler that it is a shame that dev was not pursued at it has some easy features to work with: Web tools, trace route, individual sites blocking attributes, etc

It's a proxy with web accelerators techniques !

Prefetching is a technique used by Naviscope to dramatically speed up Web browsing.
It's possible (and very useful) to prefetch pages on sites that aren't search engines. You can configure which words Naviscope looks for when it decides what to prefetch. This is done in the Blocking & Filter Dialog: Suppose you often visit "www.washingtonpost.com" and want Naviscope to prefetch the "Classifieds" section whenever you go to that site. Open the Blocking & Filter Dialog and type "washingtonpost.com" into the Website field, and click Add. Then type "classified" into the prefetch keyword list. Click Add. Naviscope will now prefetch the "classifieds" link on "www.washingtonpost.com" whenever you visit that site. You can also disable prefetching on a site-by-site basis, etc

I have found the same to be true of Proxomitron.

Agreed! Actually I was wondering, in Naviscope, if you can make all cookies to be session cookies like you can in Proxomitron.

Oh well, Naviscope doesn't want to cooperate on my test machine I only have 32 mb of memory, so that's probably the problem. Their website says it will work with Opera so that's not the problem. I don't like to, but I may have to test it on my main computer. In the meantime, I'm running proxomitron with Opera 6.05 on my test machine and everything is fine. I using proxo "out of the box" right now as I haven't figured everything out yet. It might take me some time. After I set Opera up to use a proxy, I tried and tried to surf but proxo kept saying server not located!! Then I discovered that I hadn't even logged on to the net!!
