This is not a disaster for me. But I just want to understand why is it so. And to fix if it might be done.

I've just installed and updated Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a brand new Lenovo G580, Core i5, 4 GB RAM. Then I tried to install and failed:

Comodo Time Machine 2.8 - it said "COMODO Time Machine can not initialize operating system information."

CTM 2.9 - the same issue

Rollback Rx 9.1 - during installation in the window "Select partitions you would like to protect:" there is no partitions shown. And I can't go on the installation. Or when I make it in a slightly another way it says "The disk free space is too low to install this software" (but system partition 100 GB)

Keriver 1-Click Restore Free: when activating the Recovery Console it says "The disk0 isn't with a DOS type partitions table!". Then I skipped the activation of the Recovery Console and started to make the first snapshot, it said "FlcSelectPartByLetter failed".

So how to explain why is it so and how to install anyone of them? I wrote to Rollback and Keriver maybe they will help.

    Thank you.

Probably your disk is configured as dynamic. Non of these apps support dynamic disks.

Go to "computer management" and the select "disk management". It will display the info of your disks.

Since you said that is a brand new disk, check also if it is gpt or mbr based. I don't think that they support yet, gpt disks.

There is no word of "dynamic disks" in the "Disk Management" so they must be not dynamic. Yes it's gpt. I attached pictures from Computer Management and Paragon below.

    Thank you.

    You are welcome. :)

With gpt you'll have to wait for their updated versions.

    :argh: oh no!

    oh!

    :'( ...

    :ninja: .

    Sorry, thank you.

    Ok, I'm with imaging anyway.:)

Windows installation disk even didn't ask me if I want to choose GPT or MBR.

Am I right that GPT format can't be transformed to MBR and some new mother boards support only GPT? I read about it.

    Sure they can.
Or you can use hybrid mbr and have the best(or worst :p ) of the two types.
TerabyteUnlimited's Bootitbm and rEFInd Boot Manager support hybrid mbr.

Most mobos support both, but you have to choose the default setting uefi only/ uefi + mbr/ mbr only.

    Thank you very much.

First I wait for Keriver or Rollback to answer then I'll try something to do.

    First step
    Converting a gpt to mbr.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282793/en-us
    Second step
Converting windows UEFI Boot to mbr boot.

    Thanks!

On the first step when I wrote in the command prompt "convert mbr" the DISKPART answered "Virtual Disk Service error: The operation is not allowed on a disk that contains a pagefile volume."

    What should I do?

Now after "convert mbr" it said: "Virtual Disk Service error: The specified disk is not convertible. CDROMs and DVDs are example of disks that are not convertible."

Run the cmd from a removable media or from windows recovery environment. In chase it fails even then use a trial of "bootit bm" to convert it to mbr.

Ok, so windows recovery BCD failed with the same message from the Diskpart: "Virtual Disk Service error: The specified disk is not convertible. CDROMs and DVDs are example of disks that are not convertible."

So I'll see what can do Boot-it-Bare-Metal.

So I've created and booted from the BIBM disk. Then pressed Edit-Partitions. It shows a picture:

EFI system partition 100 MiB EFI System
Microsoft reserved partition 128 MiB GPT Entry
    System 102400 MiB HPFS/NTFS
Basic data partition 374311 MiB HPFS/NTFS

I tried to change every partition with "Change Disk Type" to EMBR and MBR and it replied: "Error. Your request is being ignored because EFI Systems required a GPT".

Could you advise what to do?

    Thank you.

I've managed do that: deleted the EFI partition using hints here.
Diskpart failed to convert to mbr.
Then I used BIBM to change to mbr. Success.
    Windows didn't boot.
Windows rescue disk refused to work: "~not the same windows".
Then I used the WinPE Macrium Boot CD. It has option to repair mbr and other stuff. And it restored windows boot keeping mbr.
Now windows is bootable with mbr. And all the data on both partitions are intact.

Is it ok that first partition is 128 MB, not 100 MB?

No bigge. It is from 200 MB to 100 MB. You can get rid of it, if you are not planning to use Windows Ultimate with Bitlocker. It is only required for Bitlocker, which is provided with Windows Ultimate.

    Best regards,

So now partition 1 is type 83 - Linux type. How to change it to normal mbr?
I've managed to install Eaz-Fix (almost the same as Rollback). Maybe that's why every second restart of the computer freezes.

Just a comment - are you sure all the updates were installed? Check Control panel > win updates > history.

My disasters are usually traced back to update failures.
