I am using ESET Smart Security 5. Just now I tried a few times to manually check for new updates for the database but every time I get this message saying the update files could not be downloaded.

I checked my internet connection but that is actually all fine.

Are there issues with the update servers maybe?

I just cleared the cache and it is downloading now. It's rather slow though.

I see a rather large filesize though, 41125 KB? Are these files really that big?

And the database info now says (after finishing the update): 7678 (20121110)? Rather odd, since when I check the update info on the ESET website this update originates from 9 November...

Ah, so it isn't on my end then. I got hacked twice and ever since I sort of freak out when my virus scanner doesn't update or has issues.

    Hopefully it's resolved quickly.

Same problem here. The download of the (rather large looking) update file starts, runs very slowly, then eventually gives up with a "Virus signature database update failed" error. I am stuck with yesterday's (Nov 9, 2012 2:29:35PM) database version 7678. o_O

Yes it's very slow, or doesn't work at all, and eventually the update attempt fails. :doubt:

Hmmm I just tried a manual update.
I tried to update from DB Ver 7678.

    And afterwards the UI displays...

    "Last successful update: 2012-11-10 17:49:02
Virus signature database version: 7678 (20121110)"

Wich is the same DB version as before I tried the manual update, only the date changed :doubt:

And as far as I can see there's no newer VSD available http://virusradar.com/en/update_info

When i tried first i got this (see screen shot) and then it gave an error message that it had failed to download the file, and the GUI also displayed that the update had failed, although i am aware there are no newer definition files available than 7678 09/11/12

My question is why does eset see this big file on the server and attempt to download it , if the file isn't set to be available thus causing the error?

    I'm also having problems. I use NOD32 (AV only) 4.2.71.2 on XP-home SP3.
I have defs 7678. I only update manually always. The update proces is very slow, there seems to be an huge update. I finally canceled it, disconnected, cleared the Eset cache, ran CCleaner, rebooted. And now was coming here to see whether others have the same kind of problems.

Have others seen, while trying to run update, that it is trying to download a file em002_32_|1.nup
I'm not sure about that character | between _ and 1

Sorry, I don't use those third-party sites for images. We have a perfect way of uploading a screenshot here on the board. But let's leave that discussion alone, the update issue is now far more important ;)

Me neither, but as I said the link is fine.

Yes would be good if an ESET person could login for a quick look here.
Edit: hey Marcos is online now :)

    Hi,

I also have the same problem.

Maybe it's better to tell in which continent we live. The reason why is because of the location of the update servers, so the problems can for example be with the European servers, United States servers, ... .
    I live in Europe.

To bad that it isn't possible to manually select a different update server. Because then it was easier to test the different update servers. I think that on one of the servers has issues or a corrupt update file

I did some research to be able to find the different update servers where Eset downloads it's updates from:
    It's a hidden folder in windows 7 : X\Programdata\Eset\Eset Smart Security\Updfiles for earlier windows version below vista it's Application data\Eset\Eset Smart Security\Updfiles

    84.233.195.61
    93.184.71.27
    90.183.101.10
    89.202.157.227
    89.202.149.36

    Regards,
    Niels

Interesting, my update process haven't got that far in any of my attempts, it basically stays at 0%
But then again, what is that big update that's on it's way down.
It can't be a VSD since 7678 is the latest o_O

Hmmm now when I look in the UI it says...

    Last successful update: 2012-11-10 19:22:14
Virus signature database version: 7678 (20121110)

And this update attempt was made automatically, and the VSD Ver is still 7678 of course.
I wonder why the time stamp has changed when no new VSD has been downloaded....

Edit: At least the update check was quick instead of failing :)

Looks to be a European issue (at a quick glance). I received virus signature version 7679 at 2:42:19 PM EST. Also see no other issues with previous updates.
