This is definitely a different issue. If a notification pops up by the Action center icon on a regular basis, could you disable notifications about firewall, antispyware and virus protection, one at a time and see when the notification stops popping up?

I disabled each one in action control, none made a difference.

Ok, Marcos, it does it with either the AV or Suite. One thing I did find is, it doesn't do it after an install, only after you do your first reboot then it go nuts.

I guess there is no chance of getting this fixed soon.

If you come across another computer running Windows 8, could you try to reproduce the issue on it? We've tried to reproduce it on several computers to no avail, no matter what we tried.

Ok, here is your Christmas present early my friend.

I can reboot, it starts, I can reboot it stops.

But I can also put Dr Web on and remove Eset and guess what, the flickering starts. Looks like McAdenville at Christmas.

So whatever it is, it aint Eset exclusive.

Same problem here on all 4 Win8 PCs in the house running Smart Security 6.0.115.0. Have to turn off action center notifications about Firewall, AV and Anti-spyware to get flickering notification area messages to stop.

If the action center is open it briefly flashes up an issue but it's on screen for too short a time to read!

Hi trjam, I've been trying the new DrWeb version on Windows 8 laptop, and I'm getting this issue, having never seen it before, and I haven't had Eset installed recently. I had to disable the AV&AM notifications in Action Center to get rid of it.
    I'm pretty certain it's a DrWeb bug.

I also have that flickering issue on my computer using Windows 8 (and Smart Security Suite 6). Not a big issue, but still annoying.

Yes. Same "Problem" here. Really annoying.

*EDIT*: Going to uninstall now and use my nod32 license. Just wanted to test Smart Security because we want to upgrade our licenses. This flickering makes me crazy :)
*EDIT2*: Forgot to mention that this Bug does not appear on NOD32 latest stable.

Well, in the taskbar, I just disabled the "Windows Maintenance Center" icon (or whatever it's called in English, my OS is in French) . It's the icon that tells you if there is a problem with something, like Windows Update, or the AV that is expired...) and it looks like the flickering went away.

    Hey eloy.

I just bought an upgrade for our licenses (2) to Smart Security and Installed the RC6. Just like magic nothing flickers anymore. Was there an update?
As far as i can say: Something changed in the last six hours. ESET keep going !!! :)

I had that one happening on my computer, it continued until I removed startmenu8 -- not sure if that was the issue but it did stop after I removed it (the only program I had installed before this began was startmenu8, hence I decided to uninstall and see if it may be the issue).

Just thought I'd add myself to this thread.
    The blinking started after installing

I'm going to remove the update... but more annoying that no solution is available than it happened in the first place... (considering the blue screen I had to endure with the installation of windows 8 before identifying eset firewall as the issue... is it safe to say eset is compatible with windows 8!)

    1. Click on "Action Center" icon in the taskbar tray.
    2. Click on "Open Action Center" link.
    3. In Action Center window, click on "Change Action Center settings" link on the left hand side.
    4. Uncheck "Network firewall" and "Spyware and related protection" options.
    5. Problem solved!

This did not work for me. I can confirm that this problem began a few days ago when I purchased ESET Smart Security 6 and installed in on my PC running WIN 8. The action center box keeps popping up over and over again for a split seconds. It does this every couple of seconds. :ouch:

Any word on a fix for this?

  22. I confirm the issue, I use Windows 8 Pro 32bit, with ESET SS 6.0.308.0.
I have a flickering notification, saying my firewall is disabled.
I disabled the notification for the Windows Firewall, but it will be enabled by itself and will still flicker.

    any solution yet?

I notice if you open the action centre and stare at it for awhile
    Under [Security] > [Virus Protection]
It says ESET Smart Security 5.2 is turned on but flickers to (what looks like) something about windows defender.. it flickers too fast to read the lot or be 100% sure.. I think I see a 5.2 in there somewhere also...

(before anyone tells me... updating to 6 now)
    ....
so far flickering seems to have stopped... yay \o/

  24. i disabled the HIPS and for about an hour now I don't see any flickering notification.
could it be a bug with the HIPS module?

the program is updated to the latest definitions.

EDIT: I enabled again HIPS and the flickering notification started again.

    Different Computer:
Virgin installation of Windows 8 - I installed updates and after that was done installed eset.
    All was good..
until today, for apparently no reason it was back.
All that has been installed after eset are .net and directx (with Rockstars LA Noir game), WinRar, XnView, and microsoft office 2010.
Nothing was being installed at the time (all was installed the days before).. I was using the computer to some browsing when the flickering started.

    ...

I'll try un/re installing eset again.

edit: Disabled HIPS, rebooted and the flickering stopped...
